Today is Christopher’s birthday, a day that will always hold both love and heartbreak for us. It’s also the day we gathered to celebrate his life, a life that changed all of ours in the most beautiful ways.

It’s hard to believe he’s gone because he is still such a powerful presence in our everyday lives. In the way we love, in the way we treat and serve kids like him, in the way we see the world... he is still here.

My special son had a way of making the world better just by being in it. He taught us patience, compassion, and a kind of unconditional love that stays with us forever.

This video is from his celebration of life, his dad singing and his sweet friend Michelle signing ASL beside him. It’s a small glimpse of the love that surrounded our Christopher and continues to surround his memory.

Happy birthday, sweet Christopher. You are deeply loved, always missed, and forever part of us through the Christopher Smith Foundation that you inspired.
