Seeing recent story from Martin Short about Gilda Radner reminds me of a very special chapter in our lives.
When our son Christopher was born with Down syndrome, the cast of Godspell in Toronto wrapped their arms around our family. I’ll never forget Gilda Radner cuddling baby Christopher, while Martin Short and the rest of the cast came together to help us stage our very first Concert of Love, raising funds for people with disabilities.
When we moved to Las Vegas, we brought the Concert of Love with us. For the next 25 years, incredible entertainers, including Wayne Newton, Tom Jones, Céline Dion, and so many others helped us raise hundreds of millions of dollars to build Opportunity Village and change the lives of thousands of families.
Christopher grew up on those stages. From being cradled by Gilda Radner as a baby to standing backstage with Céline Dion, who adored him, even after he told her to “shut up!” he was loved by some of the world’s greatest stars.
One little boy inspired so much kindness. Christopher’s life brought together extraordinary people who helped teach Las Vegas that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and loved. He inspired the building of world class campuses and residential communities, he brought a Magical Forest and a great Santa Run to Las Vegas for thousands of local residents to enjoy. His legacy continues to shine as him mom continues to make the world better in his memory. ❤️
