Indigenous Cultural Conservation Society

Indigenous Cultural Conservation Society The existence of these elder statesmen of humanity should not hinge upon the value of the land they inhabit and its resources.

ICCS works with indigenous pastoral people to preserve their cultural way of life and empower them with the technology to restore grasslands that are turning to desert. The Maasai warriors – renowned for their ancient tradition and colourfully indigenous culture – are under threat due to large commercial development, private acquisition of land and drought. In an unquenchable thirst for resources

and land, indigenous communities throughout the world suffer encroachment of their ancestral homelands and the subsequent exploitation of their resources. The mission of Indigenous Cultural Conservation Society (ICCS) is to deploy programs that promote the preservation of the Maasai culture, through education and technology. The Maasai struggle is but a microcosm of the challenge that all of Africa’s – and indeed the world’s – indigenous societies face when resources are discovered in their territories. Due to encroachment, tribal communities face relocation to major cities to live in extreme poverty, used as cheap labour for the same industries that exploit their own land and its resources.
