Protectors of Tule Springs

Happy Birthday to Sandy, one of our founding members! Her passion for public lands, relentless drive and heart for service are deserving of honor and praise!

Happy 80th Birthday to a force of nature! 💛🌎

Join us in celebrating Sandy Croteau for this monumental lap around the sun. Volunteer, advocate, citizen scientist, mother, grandmother, friend...she does it all.

Next month, Sandy is being recognized as a 2026 Stars of Nevada - Governor's Points of Light Awards finalist for her more than 20 years of volunteer service to the Tule Springs community. Her love and dedication have helped us succeed in our mission to preserve history and special places for this generation and those to come. Want to honor Sandy today? Go for a walk in nature, join a volunteer project, learn something new, or dance to "You Can Call Me Al".

If you live near Tule Springs National Monument, you likely have these neighbors coming by in the evening to snack on insects 🦇

The City of Las Vegas is hosting the 4th Annual Parks for Pollinators BIOBLITZ!
Saturday, September 12, 10am - 2 pm
Floyd Lamb Park
FREE, no entrance or event fee

🐝 What is a BIOBLITZ? Parks throughout the country will be participating in a fun challenge to see how many pollinator species can be documented throughout the month. It is easy to participate, too! Simply join the City of Las Vegas project page on iNaturalist (City of Las Vegas: Floyd Lamb Park Nature Challenge · iNaturalist), make observations on your own, and upload using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app, the online community will help identify the species of plant, animal, or insect you've observed. This lets parks determine changes in plant populations over time and in a variety of locations.

🌱 The event includes a plant, seed, or garden tool swap. Participate in STEAM activities, meet lots of local community organizations like Protectors of Tule Springs, and visit the food trucks. Fun day for the whole family!

Volunteer Spotlight - Michael 🌟

Over the past 11 years, Michael has been a great asset in our volunteer community. He was inspired to get involved by Sandy, one of the founding members of Protectors, and has dedicated over a decade to looking out for Tule Springs and its wildlife.

Michael's passion is with the "I'm a Protector" program. He's out on the TUSK landscape daily, and diligently turns in his reports to keep the habitats safe. He has already spotted 14 desert tortoises this year alone!

Thank you, Michael, for your years of dedication and for being a true Protector. Volunteers like you are what keep Tule Springs thriving!
