🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Joel 🌟
Joel has been volunteering with us since October 2025 and has quickly become a valued part of our volunteer community. After meeting some of the Protectors' board members and learning more about the volunteer program, he decided to get involved and give back to the community where he lives.

One of Joel’s favorite volunteer activities is Perimeter Patrol. He enjoys getting out on the monument and helping keep an eye on the landscape while spending time outdoors. When asked about a memorable volunteer experience, he shared that seeing a Bear Poppy in bloom for the first time was a highlight. After attending Sandy Croteau’s training, he gained a new appreciation for the plant and was excited to finally see one in person.

Joel also wanted to give a shout-out to his fiancée, Chavon, who volunteers alongside him and has been a great teammate.

Thank you, Joel and Chavon, for being part of our volunteer community and helping protect Tule Springs!

Introducing our new Volunteer Stickers!

We wanted a fun way to recognize the many ways volunteers support our parks and programs. Volunteers can earn one sticker for each volunteer role they participate in.

We also wanted a fun way for volunteers to show off your volunteer achievements- our new Water Bottles! These 30oz stainless bottles are specially designed to display your Volunteer Stickers as you earn them. They also come with 2 different types of lids and make a great place to showcase any of your other favorite sticker collections.

Water bottles are available for $25 for volunteers and $32 for non-volunteers. If you'd like to purchase one, please reach out to Amanda at [email protected]

🌟VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Jeff Smeltzer 🌟
For the past four years, Jeff has been a dedicated part of our volunteer community, helping keep Tule Springs clean and welcoming for everyone who visits. He was inspired to get involved by Sandy, one of the founding members of Protectors, and says one of the best parts of volunteering is getting to work in her shadow.

His favorite volunteer activity is rolling up his sleeves for cleanup projects, especially picking up trash in the Eglington Preserve and hauling it away in his own truck. Jeff has also helped out with patrolling the perimeter of TUSK.

Thank you, Jeff, for your years of hard work, dedication, and willingness to lend a hand wherever it's needed. Volunteers like you help make Tule Springs a better place for everyone!

Leave the fireworks shows for nature and the experts! All fireworks, including those sold locally and allowed in Clark County for Independence Day celebrations, are never allowed on Nevada’s public lands- which include Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument and Ice Age Fossils State Park plus many other great areas surrounding Las Vegas. Enjoy the weekend safely!
