In October, 1908, Mrs.

Nellie (Sam) Verrill Davis represented the Leisure Hour Club at a meeting in Reno to form the Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs to be constituent of the General Federal of Women's Clubs. During the course of the meeting Nellie had to inform them that the Leisure Hour Club had men members too, and that they were unwilling to give them up. It was decided finally the Leisure Hour Club could become a

member with the understanding that the men members were not to vote on Federation affairs, nor were they to be counted for any purpose as members of the club where Federation matters were concerned. The Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs was formed and Nellie was elected to serve as its first President. Forty-two years later, in 1948, the Nevada Federation of Women's Clubs, all whose members had attended the Mesquite Club's first Reciprocity Day in Las Vegas, and the Elderberry Club of Reno, just for oldsters. Other clubs were the U-Wah-Un, Paiute meaning "A Circle of Friends", W.C.T.U. of Reno and the Toiyabe Literacy Club of Manhattan, who's President Ella A. Humphrey wrote one of Nevada's most beautiful poems "Manhattan." At this meeting, Lees Mothers Club was presented for membership.
