It’s another SUPER FRIENDS anniversary!
Produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the Super Friends television series introduced a new generation of young and old viewers to what separated its numerous heroes from the litany of villains they learned to stop together.
The show’s Characters were based on the Justice League of America and associated comic book characters published by DC Comics.
The deeper themes explored through its 9 seasons were base largely through off-world cultures. In one episode, where the Green Lantern was accused of destroying an alien civilization’s outer planet, one member of the Super Friends rushed immediately to defend him since there had to be some mistake. This defense attorney was warned, however, about the laws of this particular civilization - and what character traits like loyalty, integrity and ultimate responsibility meant to them. If found guilty, the attorney defending the accused would receive the same sentence!
SPOILER ALERT
But every episode resolved in a very Sherlock Holmesian way. As it turns out, the planet and its habit inhabitants weren’t destroyed - just hidden from sight by the villain Brainiac. This plan would have eliminated the biggest threat to Brainiac’s villainy - Green Lantern - through imprisonment of both his person and his heroic heart.
