AAAAAAND……that’s a wrap. This TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK not only wraps up our 2025 adoptions, it also wraps up the operations of our beloved rescue. Rizzo, now named Toby, has found his forever home with Vic and Elle, and they could not love this amazing dog any more than they do! Toby is going to have a life we wish every dog could have.
We were honored to be able to help over 104 dogs in our community during our 2 plus years rescuing shepherds. Many of our volunteers worked together helping to save over 1000 shepherds being involved in 2 different Las Vegas shepherd rescues. Thank you Las Vegas for supporting us. We couldn’t have done it without you.

WHAT?????? Could it be???? Is this long term resident, Lenny, posing for his TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK photo???? Could our eyes be playing tricks on us???
It’s true!!!! Lenny has left the building!!! Shep Shack volunteer, Karen, fell in love with Lenny the first time she set foot in the rescue house! Each time she came to the rescue, her love for Lenny grew. And Lenny knew it. Even when Karen had to step back from volunteering, her heart ached for Lenny. Finally, she couldn’t stand it! She knew that Leonard was her man! She did not make this decision lightly. There were things to do and plans to make. And Karen did them all!!! So now that Lenny is home for good, we can all celebrate this TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK!

HEY EVERYONE!!!! Fritz wants to shout it from the rooftops!!! He is the star (well, he and Ana is too) of this TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK!!!! First of all, Ana is a rockstar of a volunteer!!! Her first shift at the Shep Shack wasn’t an easy one, but she continued to show up for the dogs!!! So when she expressed interest in adopting amazing Mr Fritz, I knew she was in it for the long haul. And when that comes along, you don’t let it get away. We know you’ll be so happy together. An amazing dog and an amazing volunteer!! Thank you, Ana for hanging in there and for making Mr Fritz your forever friend. And this, my friends, is how you end your weekend with a happy TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK!!!

🖤Announcement from Shari’s Shepherd Rescue

After many years of saving, healing, and rehoming German Shepherds in need, we must share some very difficult news. Shari’s Shepherd Rescue will be closing its doors at the end of the month.

This decision was not made lightly. With Shari’s retirement and the loss of our rescue property, our board and volunteers have worked tirelessly to find a sustainable path forward. Unfortunately, despite every effort, continuing operations is no longer possible.

We are now focused on ensuring that every remaining dog is safe, loved, and placed in a proper home. Our priority will always be their wellbeing.

To everyone who has supported us over the years — our adopters, volunteers, donors, and friends — we cannot thank you enough. Together, we saved countless German Shepherds and gave them the second chances they deserved. The love and community that grew from this rescue will never fade.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of the Shari’s Shepherd Rescue family. 🐾

ADOPTER UPDATE!!

Well the only appropriate way to start this post is with one of the most well known cliches of all time. GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!!!! Our near perfect girl Bingo has finally found her forever home!!!!! After waiting for 10 long months at the rescue house, our prayers have been answered. And in the best way ever!!! Terry and Stacy are previous adopters who became dear friends and huge supporters of SSR! When their previous shepherd recently passed, Stacy contacted me and said Bingo kept coming up in her Facebook feed and she felt that maybe it was a sign. As a sidenote, the last four dogs that Terry and Stacy have had all had the letter B as the first letter of their names. So was it a sign????? The most important thing was to make sure that Bingo could live nicely with 11-year-old Buddy who is the absolute epitome of a perfect older gentleman dog. (I have seriously thought about stealing him, but could never figure out a way I could do it and not get caught.!🤣) The meet and greet went well although Bingo was a little bit excited (but who could blame her?) She has learned to be more gentle with Buddy.
Bingo will now be named Sasha. They are naming her Sasha to honor their previous shepherd, Bella, whose original name had been Sasha. But a new life deserves a new name. We are absolutely thrilled and could not be happier that Bingo/Sasha is home for good! I am ecstatic that I am finally able to write this heartwarming. TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK.

ARE YOU SITTING DOWN??? Have you swallowed that sip of coffee? We have BIG news!!!! Our long time resident, Parker, has left the building!!!
Susan and Michael came to us looking to adopt a dog. This is not their first rodeo. And I can honestly say, I have never, in all my years of rescue, had a family come in and ask such well thought out, relevant questions regarding our process and the care of the dog, as well as so many other really great questions. They know that rescuing a dog is not something you do on a whim. And I’m pretty sure Parker knew that the minute he came out to meet them because he turned on the charm. Parker has been with us since February and he was in the Shelter system in California before we got him. So it’s pretty safe to say it’s probably been a year since he lived in a home with a family. And there’s no dog more deserving than handsome, sweet, well-behaved Peter Parker, as we like to call him.
So thank you, Susan and Michael for doing your research, asking all the right questions and giving me the opportunity to write this TALE FROM THE SHEP SHACK that has been such a long time in coming!!
