Just how cool can deserts get? Well, maybe that depends on the time of day and year – but if we’re talking about the Clark County Desert Conservation Program the answer is: VERY COOL!
The DCP works hard to ensure the survivability of protected species found around Nevada’s Clark County by using research, habitat acquisition/restoration, public education, roadway fencing and the Wild Desert Tortoise Assistance phone line. Each year they host the annual Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (MSHCP) Progress Report Symposium to showcase this progress.
This year Ecologist & Environmental Scientist Tarita Harju and Natural Resources Scientist & Spatial Analyst Dr. Jodi Berg made the trip over to present their work on “Assessing Riparian Vegetation Using UAS-mounted Lidar, Multispectral, and Color Sensors.”
