Growing Kendall County

Economic development is about more than business recruitment and infrastructure. It is also about creating communities where people of all abilities have the opportunity to live, work, and thrive.

Through this series, we're highlighting nonprofit organizations and community partners helping strengthen Kendall County's economy and future.

This week's spotlight is LTO Ventures, a Boerne-based nonprofit working to expand housing, employment, education, and community engagement opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Their work focuses on three key areas:

• Developing Autumn Hills Village, a planned residential community in southern Kendall County designed to help adults with IDD live more independently while remaining connected to the community.

• Providing consulting and project management services that have helped nearly 20 nonprofits across the country develop housing communities for adults with IDD.

• Advocating at the local, state, and national levels for the human and civil rights of individuals with disabilities.

Because strong communities create strong economies, LTO Ventures is helping build a more inclusive Kendall County by creating opportunities for individuals of all abilities to live, work, and thrive.

Almost 100 people braved a torrential thunderstorm on April 20th to attend our inaugural State of Disabilities in the Hill Country Town Hall. For some, it was an eye-opener to learn that 28.7% of Americans have one of six disabilities.
