📣Big news for Southern Nevada trails🚵‍♀️🌵

We’re excited to announce that Southern Nevada Mountain Bike Association has been awarded a grant through the Conserve Nevada Program of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources👏👏👏

This grant will help fund the construction of two major trail projects in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The 3-Mile Smile Concept Plan and the Red Rock Canyon Campground Trails Concept Plan.

Together, these projects will bring more than 20+ miles of new trail to Southern Nevada, expanding recreation opportunities and improving trail connectivity for riders, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts🚵‍♀️🏃‍♀️🥾

3-Mile Smile Concept Plan:
This approximately 11.5-mile trail network is designed to enhance one of Southern Nevada’s most iconic riding and hiking areas by adding sustainable reroutes, and new advanced trail options📍🗺️

👉The vision is to improve rider flow, reduce user conflict, and create a more sustainable, world-class trail experience.

The Red Rock Canyon Campground Trails Concept Plan:
This will create approximately 12-miles of trail network which will expand trail opportunities in the Campground area, creating new beginner and intermediate-friendly experiences while improving access and connectivity across the growing Southern Nevada trail system⛰️🔗

These projects represent a major investment by the State of Nevada in the future of outdoor recreation, trail sustainability, and public land access in our region.

This is just the beginning.

🤝 Stronger Together, Nevada 🌄

Today was a powerful reminder that the future of Nevada’s trails, public lands, and outdoor recreation is built through collaboration.

We were honored to join representatives from NVOBC, NDOR, Travel Nevada, The Wilderness Society, SNMBA, the Great Basin National Park Foundation, the Nevada Conservation League, The Nature Conservancy, Friends of Avi Kwa Ame, and many other incredible partners from across the state for the Stronger Together event.

From Southern Nevada to the Great Basin, we came together to share projects, celebrate successes, discuss challenges, and strengthen the relationships that help protect and expand access to the places we all love.

Whether you hike, bike, camp, ohv, fish, nature watch, kayak, climb, or simply enjoy Nevada’s wild places, the work we do is bigger than any one organization.

Real progress happens when diverse voices come together with a shared vision for stewardship, recreation, conservation, and community. We are beyond grateful to have been a part of this amazing event.

Thank you to the planning committee and everyone who showed up, shared ideas, and invested in the future of outdoor recreation in Nevada. The connections made today will help create stronger trails, stronger partnerships, and a stronger Nevada for generations to come.

SNMBA was invited to Red Rock Canyon to participate in a roundtable discussion with Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgam this morning. This event was attended by many different outdoor groups, from mountain bikers (that would be us 😊) to climbers to off roaders to hunters and ranchers. It’s not every day that you get the chance to meet and talk with the actual decision makers of our country, so this was really an amazing opportunity. We were able to speak directly to the Secretary and share our experience and frustrations of trying to build trails legally on federal land.

We would like to thanks the folks at International Mountain Bicycling Association for bringing this opportunity to us. We are hopeful that the connections we made at this event will translate into more help for trails in Southern Nevada.

⚠️On March 18, 2026, the Forest Service will be conducting invasive plant treatments on the Lower Showgirl trail between Harris Springs and highway 157.

This will involve the utilization of herbicide, causing the trail to be dyed blue in areas of treatment.

Signage will be posted for 24-48 hours to communicate with hikers and bikers in the area.

‼️Please do not ride or hike on areas sprayed to avoid transfer of blue dye onto tires, shoes, pants, or skin. The blue dye will be visible, though fading, for several days after spraying and signs are removed.
