At Rumble on the RIo, we’re excited to make space for multiple kinds of competitive derby.

We were just going to explain the different divisions, but in light of the recent Supreme Court decision allowing states to exclude trans athletes from girls’ and women’s sports, we want to be clear about our values: trans people belong in sports. Trans women are women. Gender-diverse skaters belong in derby.

We put this value into action in our tournament. This last weekend, we had three divisions:

**Open Division Play**
Open Division games are not WFTDA-sanctioned and do not count toward WFTDA rankings. This division is fully open-gender and welcomes skaters of all genders.

**Upper Sanctioned Division**
WFTDA-sanctioned play featuring teams ranked in the 30s–40s in the North America West region.

**Lower Sanctioned Division**
WFTDA-sanctioned play featuring teams ranked in the 80s–90s in the North America West region.

WFTDA-sanctioned play is open to women and people of marginalized genders, including trans, nonbinary, intersex, Two-Spirit, gender-expansive, and gender-diverse skaters.

All games use the same roller derby rules and game format. Our different divisions help create meaningful matchups, ranking opportunities, and more ways for our derby community to show up together.

Roller derby has always made room for people who were told they did not belong elsewhere. ROTR is proud to uphold that value among our skaters, coaches, officials, photographers, and more.

We are recruiting! We’re looking for skaters and non-skaters! Contact skaters and non-contact skaters! We are still rebuilding our league after mass retirements in 2019 and then Covid hitting in 2020. We have many new members now but we would love to have more🖤 We’d love to have YOU.
Our league is comprised of more than just team contact skaters. We also need officials who skate and officials who don’t. We need volunteers to help sell merch and tickets during games. We need announcers and coaches. We’re more than willing to teach the game to anyone and everyone who wants to be involved. We have gatherings to watch derby. We participate in parades and we volunteer in the community. We are an entire organization that makes moves that can be put on resumes. Several of our skaters are currently wearing many hats when we really should only be wearing a few.
So if you wanna be a part of something bigger then please reach out and let us know. 💛❤️🖤
