Selah Place

Selah Place We are surrounding single moms on their journey to hope, healing, health, and freedom.

Selah Place is a place where women and their children can learn about and begin to understand fully the healing work of the cross of Jesus Christ, to experience freedom that can be found only in Him, and to be discipled and supported as they learn to walk out life free from addictions, chains, and bondages.

🎬 And… ACTION!

This week, three of our mommas (and some of our faithful sponsors ❤️) filmed for our upcoming fundraiser, Her Journey Home.

I know their stories. I know the transformation. I’ve witnessed it firsthand.

But to hear it straight from the mouths of these precious women—from their perspective—hit me in a new way.

And I was wrecked. 🥹

Their stories are stories of strength, courage, resilience, and hope.

Trust me—you don’t want to miss what they have to share. Anyone who hears them will surely leave inspired, encouraged…changed.

We’ve got something brewing, and we’re so excited to share….
Next month, Selah Place will be celebrating four years of service to our community. These first four years have held so much growth and so many incredible blessings that they’re almost impossible to put into words. But we’re going to do our best to try!
Sunday, September 13, Selah Place will be hosting our first annual Her Journey Home benefit, where we will share the story of where we came from, how we got here, and our vision for the future.
We will also be giving you a window into the journey of three of our incredible mommas and their families. You’ll have a chance to hear firsthand their stories—including the struggles and the victories—and we are just sure you will leave changed and encouraged!
The timing of this benefit is important to us for many reasons, not the least of them being that we will not be receiving the state funding we received last year. As we move into this next year, we will be relying on the support of our community in a greater way to continue walking alongside the moms and children we serve.
Would you consider coming out and supporting the work of Selah Place in this tangible, timely way?

WELCOME HOME ❤️

One week later... they're home!

House setup days are some of my favorite days. We put a lot of thought and care into making every Selah Place house feel like a home—carefully furnishing it and making sure each family has everything they need.

This evening will be etched in my memory for a while. When I stopped back by the apartment, the kids were happily singing together as they excitedly put their things away in their new bedroom. It was like all the worries and stress of the past few months had been washed away, and they were free... to just be kids.

The space we helped prepare for them was already filled with so much joy. So much peace. Selah.

Tonight, a new chapter begins. They will all sleep in a bed and won't have to wonder where they'll land tomorrow night or the nights after that. And I'll sleep a little better knowing that, too.

There's really nothing like being part of the journey of our amazing families.

Thanks for doing it with us. ❤️

I just got to tell someone who is 9 months pregnant and living in a borrowed car with her two children that we can offer her and her family a place in the Selah Place program.

A roof over her head—but so much more than that.

A chance to breathe.

A chance to heal.

A chance to begin building a new life for herself and her children.

A chance to break generational cycles of poverty and brokenness.

This momma grew up in foster care, and one of her greatest fears was that her own children would experience the same thing. That changed with one phone call today and her decision to say a resounding yes.

There are few things in this world that make my heart explode with joy, excitement, and gratitude more than getting to be part of moments like these.

Thank you to every person who gives, volunteers, prays, shares our posts, and walks alongside Selah Place. You may never meet this momma, but today your generosity gave a family hope, safety, and the opportunity for a completely different future. ❤️

When I worked as a midwife in Pinellas County, I had the privilege of working for a community health center that served an "underserved" population.

In this role, I often had a front-row seat to generational cycles of brokenness and trauma that many times resulted in poverty, addiction, and child welfare involvement, etc.

Women would come in early in pregnancy, expectant and excited about the chance to do things differently this time around. They would be motivated and ready—two very important factors in making a major change in the trajectory of one's life.

Unfortunately, many would come back months or years later in the same circumstances and situations they started in. Sometimes they had fallen back into addition. Other times they had lost custody of the baby they had been so excited to meet and love just a short while before. It was heartbreaking.

That is why the one—and I do mean ONE—time I saw someone break the cycle and walk in freedom from past vices through one, then two, then three pregnancies and births, I had to know what made the difference.

I will never forget that precious momma's response.

She quickly smiled and said, "Two things. I found Jesus and a healthy support system."

That moment is etched in my memory because it is the moment the very foundation of Selah Place began to come together in my mind.

Last night, I received a picture of some of our participants and volunteers sitting around a table together. Learning and growing. Together.

And I found myself thinking about that conversation all over again.

Not just any support system will do.

That is why our volunteers and staff are carefully screened and why many of us walk through the same healing program our participants do. Because we want to be the kind of support system that protects, promotes, and potentiates healing and growth.

And that is why, as these women mature and grow personally and then give back to those a little newer to this path, it matters so much to us.

Seeing them love each other so well through acts of service, words of encouragement, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to share victories with... knowing they will be the ones to carry the torch... is everything. ❤

Everyone's journey looks a little different.

For some of our mommas, going back to school isn't the chosen path. And we're really good with that!

When given the space, stability, and security to dream, an entrepreneurial spirit has been ignited in a few of our participants. We are incredibly proud of these two women, who have hustled, worked hard, and stepped out in faith to launch their own businesses.

Their hard work is paying off with growing businesses, new opportunities, and exciting potential for the future.

📣 And because we're incredibly proud of them, we're sharing their businesses below. Give them a follow, keep them in mind when you need their services, and help us cheer them on!

We often say, “We don’t just want to put a band-aid on poverty.”

I’m actually not sure if we made that up or borrowed it from someone. 😅 But either way, it drives so much of what we do at Selah Place.

We don’t want our mommas to leave our program and end up right back where they started — in poverty and desperation.

That’s why setting goals and working toward them from day one is such a priority for us. Yes, we want them to work hard and save while they’re in the program. But more than that, we want them to leave financially stable, with a livable wage that allows them to truly meet their family’s needs.

Sometimes that looks like job training or technical classes. Other times it looks like an entrepreneurial spirit being ignited and given the opportunity to launch.

We are so proud of our mommas who are working hard and achieving their goals. Soon they’ll be ready to leave — and not just leave, but SOAR. 💙

Community.

One of my favorite parts of Selah Place is getting to be part of the lives of these women and children.

Celebrating the wins.
Cheering on the struggling.
Mourning with those who mourn.
And simply being there for each other through it all.

There’s something powerful about having people around you who will speak life over you, remind you of your worth, and love you well in every season. 💚

We just got word this morning that one of our little ones was accepted into an early intervention program to address some of the delays her momma was concerned about. ❤️

We didn’t do a lot to make this happen outside of walking alongside her momma and helping her navigate the system. But today I was thinking about how much stabilization — safe housing, safe people in your corner, and the chance to finally catch your breath — matters in moments like this.

I think this story could look very different if this family was still fighting just to survive.

But because they’re not… because of the work we get to do at Selah Place… the trajectory of this little one’s life will very likely be changed completely.

And that matters.

It matters to her.
It matters to her momma.
And it matters to me.

Days like today, I’m especially grateful for the little wins. Because little wins add up to changed lives. ✨
