This Saturday community came together to celebrate its fight to protect its historic riverfront, honor the descendants of the residents who stood up for these lands in 1951, and recognize the people continuing that legacy today after months of organizing and pushing back against the border wall construction!!

San Ygnacio showed what it means to stand together for your land, water, history and community!!

A celebration of resistance, resilience and the power of a community that refuses to give up!!

We are honored to have The Guardian share our story. Land theft is not up for debate. This government project is not wanted and not needed. Our border communities don’t need more division caused by ill-conceived and corrupt government projects. We have many needs in South Texas. A wall is not one of them.

THE FIGHT TO PROTECT SAN YGNACIO, TEXAS CONTINUES.

At the Zapata County Commissioners Court meeting, County Attorney Mr. Figueroa provided updates on the latest developments surrounding proposed Border Wall construction.

Five community members spoke out, bringing forward history, concerns, and a message to BEWARE of contractors bearing gifts.

LEAVE SAN YGNACIO UNDISTURBED. ✊🏽

📜 One resident presented an original 1950s petition signed by the people of San Ygnacio opposing federal efforts to take their land. This physical document carries the signatures of people who stood up decades ago to protect their homes, their community, and their land from this same issue.

San Ygnacio is more than a dot on a map. It is a living community, a cultural treasure, and a place held deeply in the hearts of thousands.

Residents also raised serious concerns about:

-Flood risks connected to Border Wall construction
-The hydrology study involving the San Ygnacio water plant
-The potential impacts of federal contractors on the community
-The need for stronger engagement from county leadership
-A request for Commissioners Court to send a letter to Congressman Henry Cuellar seeking a carve-out for San Ygnacio

Residents also urged Zapata County officials to BEWARE OF CONTRACTORS BEARING GIFTS.

Residents in historic San Ygnacio are standing their ground—halting heavy machinery, filing federal lawsuits against DHS, and lodging criminal trespassing complaints against private contractors to protect their private land along the Rio Grande.

🚨Border Wall Contractors Put on Notice🚨

‼️‼️”You are trespassing and will face charges”‼️‼️

On Monday morning, several San Ygnacio residents halted border wall contractors from illegally entering private property and the county-owned Birding Sanctuary, advising them of charges that will be filed.

Federal contracts have been awarded to Granite Construction, Spencer Construction, Kiewit (Southwest Valley), and Cochrane for border wall construction and buoy deployment in Zapata County.

However, the historic town of San Ygnacio has an exemption which local residents state that contractors are violating with trucks and heavy machinery. THIS IS A DIRECT ATTACK TO OUR LAND.

The government is overstepping its bounds and ignoring local exemptions: DO YOU THINK THIS IS RIGHT?!

BIG BEND CONSTRUCTION WAS JUST PAUSED, NOW WE NEED TO FIGHT FOR SAN YGANCIO!

Elsa has been arrested TWICE, She returned anyway, and San Ygnacio STOOD WITH HER!!!! Residents, Landowners and a U.S Veteran successfully prevented the UNLAWFUL destructions of the bird sanctuary

Now, landowners are SUING the United States, alleging unlawful seizure. We are prepared to explore ANY AND ALL LEGAL ACTIONS AVAILABLE TO US.

We won this battle!!!! The fight is far from over!!!
