🚨Border Wall Contractors Put on Notice🚨
‼️ SOUND ON‼️

‼️‼️”You are trespassing and will face charges”‼️‼️

On Monday morning, several San Ygnacio residents halted border wall contractors from illegally entering private property and the county-owned Birding Sanctuary, advising them of charges that will be filed.

Federal contracts have been awarded to Granite Construction, Spencer Construction, Kiewit (Southwest Valley), and Cochrane for border wall construction and buoy deployment in Zapata County.

However, the historic town of San Ygnacio has an exemption which local residents state that contractors are violating with trucks and heavy machinery. THIS IS A DIRECT ATTACK TO OUR LAND.

The government is overstepping its bounds and ignoring local exemptions: DO YOU THINK THIS IS RIGHT?!

BIG BEND CONSTRUCTION WAS JUST PAUSED, NOW WE NEED TO FIGHT FOR SAN YGANCIO!

ONE BORDER.
ONE RIVER.

‼️On August 14, Elsa Hull was arrested for the second time while peacefully documenting construction and requesting proof of authority to access the ZC Bird Sanctuary in San Ygnacio.

Residents say the project threatens private-property rights, wildlife habitat, Rio Grande access, and flood safety.‼️

Lawlessness on the border is being created by Big Government, and it’s aimed directly at everyday people.” — Elsa Hull

The San Ygnacio Merienda on July 25th was a success! We had a great turnout of about 40 folks who learned about the risks posed to our community by the border wall and buoys, focusing on the harm to our drinking water and the exacerbated flooding risk. Folks also learned about San Ygnacio’s exclusion to the declaration of taking and how the people united and fought the federal government in the 1950s to save the town from condemnation when Falcon Dam was built. A few descendants of the organizers who saved the town in the 1950 were also in attendance and recognized. We discussed what we can do to push back against these unlawful, dangerous, and unnecessary barriers and the border wall contractors who are trespassing and damaging private property all over Zapata County. We had a procession to the river, followed by a symbolic planting of seeds to initiate the revegetation of the area illegally bulldozed by Kiewit and the posting of a sign in this area to recognize the 276 bird species seen at the bird sanctuary as reported by eBird. Together we can make a difference!
