Hello S.T.A.R.S Community,
Valley Association for Independent Living (VAIL) , a non-profit organization, is seeking input from people with disabilities and their families through a short anonymous survey. They will be visiting Washington D.C soon to meet with U.S representatives to bring testaments and feedback from our local disability community with them.
The survey ask about important issues regarding:
SNAP Changes - stricter work requirements for adults up to age 64,shorter time limits on benefits and more paperwork to prove expenses
Medicaid Changes- stricter assets limits, having to renew every 6 months instead once a year, and losing coverage more easily due to paperwork mistakes.
The recent Department of Justice memo from June 18th that says the government will no longer strongly push states to help people with disabilities live independently in the community instead of large institutions. This memo reinterprets the Rehabilitation Act and ADA, making it easier for states to keep people in institutions.
Healthcare protections under Section 504 that require accessible medical equipment in hospitals and prevent doctors from denying care based on bias.
The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)
New rules for making government websites and public sidewalks more accessible (ADA Title II and PROWAG)
The shortage of caregivers and support service
If you or someone you know has a disability, please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Our voices matter.
