Thank you to reporter Katie Klingsporn and the WyoFile team for sharing the story of Linda Barton, founder of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance, now the Wyoming Enrichment Network. Today, Linda’s legacy lives on in the connections, opportunities, and communities she helped create. We are grateful to continue to build on the foundation she established for Wyoming's young people and the programs that serve them.

Lander resident, 76, died May 24, remembered for her warmth, elan and decades of community work in the state.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Linda Barton, founder of the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance.

“The world is a little dimmer without Linda’s bright light,” says WYEN Advisory Board Chair Craig Williams. “Her passion for children, working families, and social justice built a strong foundation for the Wyoming Afterschool Alliance and has made our state a better place. Our time together with the Afterschool Network in and out of Wyoming are some of my fondest memories. I will miss Linda’s wisdom, her sense of humor, and her sage advice, as will many others. Her memory is a blessing to me and all who knew her.”

Alongside a core team of supporters, Linda founded WYAA in 2007 with a vision to strengthen and support out-of-school time programs across Wyoming. Under her leadership, WYAA became a Priority Fund of the Wyoming Community Foundation and the 32nd Statewide Afterschool Network in the nation supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
