Did our no-voters decline a bond because the “plan was bad”…or because there is a national political agenda to defund public schools? Is that what we want for Lansing? Don’t fall for the narrative.

After passing a state budget that CUTS funding to public schools, extending government overreach, and attempting to restrict mail ballots, the KS Legislature has ended its 2026 session.

But Blue Valley-area legislators didn’t vote for any of that bad stuff, did they? After all, every legislator in our area claims to “support” our neighborhood public schools.

Remember: Don’t listen to what they say - watch how they VOTE.
In some cases, their claims versus their votes don’t line up.

One year ago, after the *2025* legislative session, BV-area House and Senate members told parents and community members: “I voted for our kids’ schools! I worked with Governor Laura Kelly to fund public education!”

Yet, BV Schools is cutting even more programs and staff due to underfunding! What’s going on?!

It’s simple: The KS Legislature is controlled by an anti-public education supermajority in both chambers. In fact, it has been that way since 2019 (and that doesn’t even include the harm done to our schools during the Brownback/Colyer years.) So even when Gov. Kelly vetoed bills that were harmful to communities and public schools, far-right legislators were able to override her vetoes.

In coming days, we’ll detail how BV-area KS House and Senate members voted on funding our kids’ schools; on Big Brother bills dictating to local governments and school boards what they *must* do - even when those mandates don’t make sense for Blue Valley students; on diverting EVEN MORE tax money away from public schools and giving it to exclusive private schools (while Blue Valley is being forced to cut programs and staff); and attempts to restrict mail voting even further.

Let’s make 2026 the year we say NO to this disastrous, anti-public education supermajority. Blue Valley voters can make that happen! EVERY Kansas House member is up for election this year. (KS Senators aren’t on the ballot until 2028.) Kansans will also elect a new GOVERNOR, Secretary of State, and Attorney General among other important state-level offices - and these offices will be on the Aug. 4 primary ballot, too. (None of the current officeholders will be on the ballot this year.)

Importantly, EVERY Kansas voter will need to vote in the Aug. 4 primary election on the constitutional amendment to change the way KS Supreme Court Justices are chosen. We recommend voting NO and will talk more about that in the coming weeks. Party affiliation WILL MATTER in Aug. 4 primary election - stay tuned for what you need to know on that.

Be ready to vote OUT anti-public education legislators...see our vote counts in the coming days and our endorsements when it’s time to vote.

Investing in your school’s facilities is the best way to protect property values and encourage growth in a community. The choice to further ignore district needs is a sure path to stagnation. The newly installed baseball facility lighting is bringing our community out to the fields and it gives our students opportunity to experience America’s favorite sport as they should 🙂

So the neglect of facilities in the past 10 years is the fault of “mismanagement” by Lansing…or the KS legislature’s failure to fund public schools? 🤨 It’s probably not a coincidence that our HVAC and pavement hasn’t been dealt with since 2015….
