Today we're sharing news that comes with a full heart. 💙
Lansing's Bridge to Recovery is closing — and we could not be more proud of what this community built together.
After Hurricane Helene, a tent outside the Liar's Bench, a stack of hand-drawn maps, and a community that refused to wait became Lansing's Bridge to Recovery.
We never set out to start a nonprofit.
We set out to help the people next to us — and then we didn't stop.
Together, we repaired more than 100 private bridges, culverts, roads, and driveways across Ashe County, reconnecting families, elderly residents, farms, and whole communities to their own front doors.
Today we're sharing that our board has made the difficult decision to wind down the organization. We were built for an emergency and moved as fast as families needed us to.
The long road ahead calls for partners with a steadier, longer-term funding pipeline — so we're handing the work off well. We'll complete at least one final access project in Ashe County, then donate our remaining funds and resources to an organization carrying this mission forward, so every dollar keeps doing exactly what you gave it to do: getting people home. We are coordinating directly with Bridging Together to pass off some of the remaining bridge needs on our list.
If you or someone you know still needs help:

📢 We strongly encourage every homeowner still in need to contact the NC Private Roads & Bridges Program — even if you're unsure whether you qualify. The state needs to hear from you. The more homeowners who reach out, the clearer the picture of how much need remains — and the stronger the case to continue funding and extend permitting waiver deadlines that directly affect the cost of your rebuild.

To every donor, volunteer, contractor, church, and partner — thank you. You turned a list of names into more than a hundred families back home.
Ashe County showed up for its community. That was true before us, through us, and long after us. 💛
