🐝 Beekeeper Joe caught some amazing footage of one of our girls collecting pollen from our Greater Burdock plant! 🌿

Watch closely during the last 15 seconds of the video—you can clearly see her pollen sacs (corbiculae). These smooth, hollowed-out areas on a worker bee's hind legs are surrounded by tiny hairs and act like natural saddlebags, allowing her to pack, shape, and safely carry pollen back to the hive to feed the colony.

🐝 Big dreams are taking root at Dromgold Farm! 🌼

One of the very first goals of Pollinator Pals is to expand our existing bee yard at Dromgold Farm into an educational apiary dedicated to beekeeping instruction, hands-on classes, and community involvement.

Dromgold Farm is owned by The Historical Society of Perry County, and we're honored to partner with them on this project.

As part of Perry County Bee Company's commitment to giving back, Beekeeper Joe has been caring for the hives on the property all season. This year, the bees produced 40 pounds of honey, which will be bottled with a special Historical Society label, with 100% of the product donated back to the Historical Society to sell at their book sales, fairs, fundraisers, and community events.

Dromgold Farm has a remarkable history. Originally homesteaded in 1828 by the Cunningham family, it became a Pennsylvania Century Farm in 1991 and has remained an important part of Perry County's heritage for nearly 200 years. Throughout its history, the property has been home to a tannery, blacksmith shop, general store, post office, and even served as a stagecoach stop along the historic Allegheny Trail, making it a true landmark in our community.

We would also like to create a beautiful pollinator garden alongside the expanded bee yard, providing habitat for honey bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators while serving as a hands-on outdoor classroom filled with native plants.

We are incredibly excited about what lies ahead and can't wait to share our progress with all of you. Thank you for supporting our mission to educate, inspire, and protect pollinators throughout Perry County. Together, we're building something that will benefit our community for generations to come! 🐝💛🌸

🌼 Pollinators need you. You need pollinators. 🐝🦋🐦

Did you know that one out of every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators? Bees, butterflies, birds, bats, beetles, and other pollinating animals play a vital role in our food supply and the health of our environment.

As they travel from flower to flower, pollinators carry pollen that allows plants to reproduce. Because of their incredible work, we enjoy many of the fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds we eat every day. They also help produce fibers and other natural resources, reduce soil erosion, and support healthy ecosystems that store carbon and protect wildlife.

Unfortunately, pollinator populations around the world are facing increasing threats from habitat loss, pesticides, disease, and climate change.

The good news? We can all make a difference. 🌸
🐝 Plant native flowers.
🐝 Avoid unnecessary pesticide use.
🐝 Leave a little wild space for wildlife.
🐝 Support local beekeepers and pollinator-friendly farms.
Every flower planted and every pollinator protected helps create a healthier future for all of us.

🐝 Welcome to Pollinator Pals Education Foundation! 🌼

We are so excited to officially begin this new chapter!

For the past several years, Perry County Bee Company has had the privilege of providing bee education through hive tours, community events, and hands-on demonstrations. Watching children and adults discover the incredible world of honey bees has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey, and we've loved every minute of it.

Creating Pollinator Pals Education Foundation allows us to dream even bigger!

Our vision is to:
🌸 Create pollinator gardens throughout Perry County, including at schools, parks, and senior centers.
🐝 Develop educational bee yards where people can safely learn about honey bees and pollinators.
📚 Expand our school and community education programs.
🦋 Provide educational displays, activities, and resources at local fairs and events.
🌻 Help establish pollinator-friendly habitats throughout our community.
🎓 And one day, open a beekeeping school to inspire and educate the next generation of beekeepers.

Our mission is simple: to educate, inspire, and empower our community to protect pollinators and the vital role they play in our environment and food supply.

This is just the beginning, and we can't wait to share this journey with all of you.
