This is a fun event we enjoy hosting with the Riverton Rotary Club!

The Gavel Exchange is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, in conjunction with the Lander Club, at the REACH Foundation Clubhouse (622 N. 8th St. W.). Dinner will be served at 5:30. This is always so much fun as we install new officers with our Lander friends. See you there!

Many thanks to Ken Schreuder for initiating this project for our club and continuing to champion it!

🌟 Calling Future Leaders! RYLA & Young RYLA Applications Are Open 🌟

Do you know a young person ready to grow, lead, and make a difference? Now’s the time to encourage them to apply for Rocky Mountain RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) or Young RYLA!

These incredible summer leadership camps bring together motivated students from across our region for a week of team‑building, confidence‑building, problem‑solving, and pure inspiration. Participants come home energized, empowered, and connected with new friends who share their drive to serve.

✨ Young RYLA – for current 7th graders
✨ RYLA – for current 10th & 11th graders

Lander Rotary is proud to sponsor local students each year, and it’s one of our favorite programs because we get to watch these young leaders shine. Our club covers the cost of attendance for selected participants!

If you know a student who would thrive in this experience, encourage them to apply. It’s truly life‑changing. Interviews are happening mid-April so don’t wait!

Let’s help the next generation of leaders take that first big step.

We may be slightly bias, but we think our service committee is the best in the west! 🎉

Maria, our service committee chair, shared an update with the club today on all the amazing service projects our club has been involved with during the 2025/2026 Rotary year.

Here are a few highlights:

📈 Our club has participated in 23 different service projects this year

⏰ Our club members have dedicated 1373 hours to service projects so far this year

🌎 Our service projects help people right here in Lander, across our district (Wyoming & Northern Colorado), and around the world (as far as Ukraine & Rwanda!)

💰We’ve been able to secure grants from Rocky Mountain Rotary - District 5440 and Rotary International to help fund these projects

The year isn’t over yet - our spring calendar is jam packed with even more service opportunities for our members!

One of our longest standing, most well-attended programs is the Legislative Session Recap we get every year from Rep. Lloyd Larson and Sen. Cale Case. Thank you both for joining us and sharing some highlights from this year’s budget session!

🦇 Today’s Rotary Program: Exploring the Caves of Sinks Canyon 🌄

Thank you to Skylar Sargent from Sinks Canyon State Park for joining us today. Skylar shared a fascinating look into the ecology of the caves in Sinks Canyon — a world most of us never get to see!

We learned about the unique species that call these caves home, how they’ve adapted to life in darkness, and why protecting these delicate environments matters for the broader landscape. Skylar’s insights highlighted just how much life thrives in the canyon and how interconnected it all is.

We’re grateful for the work Sinks Canyon State Park does to study and preserve these hidden habitats, and for Skylar’s passion in bringing that story to our club.

🎨 Today’s Rotary Program: Creative Economics in Wyoming 📈

A big thank‑you to Dr. Jason Shogren from the University of Wyoming for joining us at today’s meeting. Dr. Shogren shared a fascinating look at creative economics and the powerful — though often hard to quantify — role the arts play in Wyoming’s economy and overall GDP.

He walked us through the challenges of measuring the true economic impact of creative work, from local artists and makers to statewide cultural initiatives. Even more inspiring were the efforts underway to better connect Wyoming artists with business professionals, strengthening both sectors and helping creative talent thrive.

We’re grateful for Dr. Shogren’s insight and for the reminder that art isn’t just culture — it’s an economic engine that shapes vibrant, resilient communities.

🌿 Today’s Rotary Program: Beavers & a Thriving Wyoming Ecosystem 🦫

A huge thank‑you to Andrea Barbknecht from the Wyoming Wildlife Federation for joining us at today’s meeting. Andrea delivered a fascinating and energetic presentation on why beavers are far more than cute, busy little engineers — they’re a vital part of healthy watersheds, wildlife habitat, and long‑term ecosystem resilience here in Wyoming.

Members got to explore her interactive displays, which brought beaver behavior, habitat building, and conservation challenges to life in a hands‑on way. It sparked great conversation and plenty of curiosity!

Today we held our annual Thanksgiving Pie Auction to benefit The Rotary Foundation! 🥧

Club members donated pies to be auctioned off and over $850 was raised! That’s a lot of pie doing a lot of good!
