Every student should have the opportunity to learn alongside their peers in an inclusive and supportive school setting.

Still, too many disabled students are separated from their peers, face a shortage of trained staff, and experience disproportionate discipline at school.

The new California Disability Leadership Alliance’s 2026 State of the State: Disability Policy in California reports where we’re at and where we need to go.

Inclusion is a right. California can and must do better for our children.

✨🦽🎃🦽✨

Image description: a disability-related meme image with an orange, green, and purple Halloween theme. At the top, bold black text with a lime green background reads:

“Ways to be Inclusive of Disabled Trick-or-Treaters this Halloween:”

Underneath this, black text appears on an orange background and reads:

“If you have stairs, greet trick-or-treaters at the foot of the steps instead of at the door.

Compliment their costume, not their mobility aid (unless it is very obviously part of the costume).

Do not assume rudeness if a trick-or-treater says nothing to you.

Have non-candy treats available (like stickers, toys, etc.) for those with dietary restrictions.

Remember that trick-or-treating is all about fun, regardless of age, costume, or disability.”

Prior to each point, to the left, is a colorful outline of a bat, either lime green or purple. Between the title text and lower text, the handle “” appears in smaller yellow text.

Our informational session about our fall Healthy Relationships program is on September 29th!

This free 8-week program runs on Tuesday nights from 7-8:30pm in partnership with Elevatus Training and two of their Certified Trainers, Dennis C. Cullen and Jacki Lyster, to support sexuality education for people with developmental disabilities.

The participant-driven sessions give an opportunity to build understanding of different types of relationships, building friendships, communication in relationships, consent, decision-making, moving from friendship to partner, safety on the internet and social media, and what makes a relationship a healthy one.

Ramps do not decrease curb appeal.
Ableism does. 🌲

Image description: a BlueSky post by Misa on Wheels that reads:

“Ramps do not decrease curb appeal.”

Beneath the text is an image of a well-constructed ramp and small set of stairs with white railings directly next to each other leading to a wooden porch. Both are aesthetically pleasing. There is a green lawn with trees in the background and a house.

Every person has different mobility needs—and the right wheelchair should fit the individual. ♿💙

Self-propel? A manual wheelchair may be an option.
Need caregiver assistance? Consider a transport wheelchair.
Need motorized support? A power wheelchair may provide greater mobility assistance.

Understanding the options is an important step toward finding the right fit.
