Lancaster Downtowners

Lancaster Downtowners Lancaster Downtowners is a welcoming, caring community of seniors that supports independence, social connection, and learning.

Lancaster Downtowners is a member of the national Village to Village Network. Downtowners includes individuals who have already retired and are living in the City of Lancaster others who anticipate living downtown for their retirement years, and younger people supportive of the Downtowners initiative. Lancaster Downtowners offers member-designed educational, social, and wellness events that engage

and activate. Members support one another though Just One Call, a volunteer program that provides help when needed. Call may request transportation, pet and plant care, daily reassurance, assistance with yard work and snow removal, technology coaching, and more. When members are looking for services that extend beyond what our village provides, we recommend connections to other resources that help them maintain an independent lifestyle.

MEET OUR SUMMER INTERN

Downtowners are happy to introduce Madeline, seen here on the left with our Executive Director Megan, a Franklin and Marshall College student from New Jersey who looks forward to spending part of her summer as an intern for our PR Committee.

Madeline is studying for a Bachelors of English Degree and is a member of the F&M swim team. Her knowledge, skills and recent hands-on experience with branding and promotion on social media platforms, along with her appreciation of compelling storytelling, makes her an excellent choice to be our intern as Downtowners continue to grow our vibrant, connected community.

Collaborating with Madeline is also another great example of connecting the generations in our age friendly city. Welcome Madi. We’re glad you’re here.

DOWNTOWNERS AROUND TOWN-TOURING BACKYARDS

When we shared about this popular Downtowners event, we were amazed at the amount of responses we got from the good folks who follow us on social media. Some even inquired about how to participate, since it sounded like such a fun activity.

As you can see from these pictures, the participants did have fun on a beautifully cooperative day to tour the local gardens and eat ice cream.

We are always proud to share how much there is to do as a member of the Downtowners and always look forward to meeting new friends and neighbors who become members of our vibrant, connected community.

Thanks to Downtowner Ruth for providing the photos.

THE DOWNTOWNERS EXPERIENCE AUCTION CONTINUES

At last years auction, delicious baked products were available for bid and they return again this year.

The Downtowners silent auction runs for five more days, and on Friday evening 6/5, the winners will be chosen.

We also look forward to our participation this year at the HARTZ Physical Therapy Annual Spring-Swing Golf Tournament, and we have much gratitude for the recognition that our sponsor Hartz has given us, along with help to make this year’s auction happen.

We hope to see everyone at the tournament.

Lancaster Rec is hosting traveling beer gardens this summer in parks through the City of Lancaster. Proceeds from the Beer Gardens help support Lancaster Rec programs. These are family events, not just adults only. Food trucks will be on hand.

Stop by between 5 and 7 pm on Thursday 6/4. Join us for the fun. Keep your eyes on the calendar for additional beer gardens to be scheduled later in the summer.

Register if you know you will be coming so we know who to look for. Show up around 5 pm and look for a red (or whatever color is available) balloon attached to the Downtowner host Carole Kirchner. Bring your own chair(s) or blanket.

DOWNTOWNERS AROUND TOWN

When walking around town, it’s always fun to look up at the upper facades of Lancaster ‘s older historic buildings to admire the architecture and detail.

Sometimes though, if you look up, you just might see a Downtowner.

Here’s Margaret, looking down on Market Street by Central Market on a neighbor’s balcony at the historic Hager Building Condominiums.
