After the rain 🤗

Lots of hands came together to make this space a sanctuary.

This Saturday, we’re putting together a small group of volunteers to help with:

• Fixing up the Sacred Eco Toilet Temple. This was built by .world + friends during their Eco Fest, and has served as our “organic soil maker” 100% fueled by guest “contributions” :)

• Finish the winding path wall. This was envisioned and built by the dynamic duo, + . They rescued reclaimed wood from the Palisades fires, and gave the branches a second life on the land.

• Cleaning up the Starry Night Skoolie area. We’ll have good food, bonfires, refreshments, and stargazing ✨

Meet Steve the Camel Cricket (aka Spider Cricket)

We found this big feller while moving some storage next to the . There was a small colony of little camel crickets underneath one of our storage boxes.

Camel crickets do not chirp like regular crickets. They do enjoy jumping *directly at their predators* (hence the scream at the end 😅)

Thank you for coming out and helping me plant trees as always! We planted four Desert Ironwoods next to the existing Desert Willows—approximately 8.5 feet apart. Two are buried in their cardboard containers, with their bottoms carved out so the tap root can grow. This was based on the advice of an elderly couple down the road, who have been farming in the area for over 60 years :)

And yes—I put Steve the Camel Cricket back where we found him 🦗

PLEASE HELP! Over 40 desert ironwood trees have sprouted 😳 What should we do with the trees?✨🌱✨

Our desert ironwood (Olneya tesota) seeds are growing! Thanks to everyone who voted for it to be added to the Tiny Forest 💛

A brief deep dive:

Picture #4: I sprouted the seeds in two ways: one method used a wet paper towel, the other used a growing medium (potting soil). The first root (called a radicle) grew like crazy! 😍

Picture #3: The cotyledon shot up through the soil shortly after replanting. These are considered part of the embryo of the seed, and not actually the tree’s final leaf form.

Picture #2: The trees’ true leaves emerge! 🥹❤️

Picture #1: The seed has officially matured into a seedling 😱😍 Once they hit ~2cm, I’ll transplant them into larger potting planters as they will have grown from seedlings into saplings. Finally, once the stem is longer than the saplings’ roots, we’ll transplant them into the desert Tiny Forest during a dormant season.

Hi friends! We are hosting a on July 27th at 4pm. Everyone is welcome 🦋

*What Is A Monarch Blitz?*
It’s a community science initiative that invites individuals, organizations, and community scientists across North America to participate in the conservation of monarch butterflies and their habitats. It happens once a year.

*What Are The Rules?*
Participants are encouraged to observe, take pictures, and write brief descriptions of monarch butterflies, their eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and milkweed plants, which are essential for the survival of monarch caterpillars.

*Why Is This Important?*
The data collected helps researchers identify priority areas for conservation efforts and understand population trends.

𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 ✨

Here’s a free-standing chore list for the land.

Thank you for suggesting we put something together, so that anyone can drive up, let themselves in, and reconnect with nature in silence and solitude 🌻✨
