Not Yet Lakewood Levy

Not Yet Lakewood Levy We support Lakewood Schools and care deeply about our children and community. We are saying yes to the schools and Not Yet to the Levy.

We believe any levy should be thoughtful, transparent, and part of a clear, sustainable financial plan. We strongly support Lakewood Schools and care deeply about the future of our children and our community. That’s exactly why we believe it’s time to pause on approving a levy right now. Strong schools deserve a sustainable, well-planned financial strategy — not rushed decisions. The next levy sho

uld be thoughtful, transparent, and grounded in a clear long-term plan before it is brought to voters. With district funds projected to carry LCSD through 2029, we have the time to do this the right way. Let’s use that time to work collaboratively with our new Treasurer, explore all available options, and develop a deliberate strategic plan. This isn’t about saying “no” to our schools. It’s about saying “yes” to a smarter, more sustainable future for Lakewood, today’s students, and future Rangers.

As expected, Issue 2 passed overwhelmingly by a 2:1 margin. Homeowners can expect to see their property taxes to increase next year by $500 - $700 in 2027.

Though we all support our schools, the school district treated our finances as though we were in a financial crisis. After being unwilling to share many financial documents about how they would handle the repurpose Lincoln and not listening to the community and parents, the levy still passed.

At what point does it take for the administration to understand it cannot do what it wants without consequence? They claim it is "about our children" yet they are driving away future residents and deceiving residents. We all care about our schools - but at this point, blind trust doesn't cut it anymore. 🤦‍♂️

SAY NO TO THE SAME & LOOK TO THE FUTURE OF OUR SCHOOLS.

Residential Tax Pressures: Adds further financial burdens to lower-income Lakewood residents, jeopardizing those who the district claims to be supporting.

Decisions Without Oversight: Administrators and officials are committing to long-term financial resolutions with zero public input or accountability, keeping taxpayers in the dark.

Ignores Needs of Community: Fails to address true priorities facing Lakewood, including declining enrollment and population.

VOTE MAY 5th TO MAKE YOURSELF HEARD!

04/30/2026

May 5th is quickly approaching - don't forget to vote! In order to make an impact, it will require you to show up remind your school board leaders that their lack of transparency, poor governance financial mismanagement will not be tolerated.

We can still support our schools, but pushing this decision one year further will not have the dire impact everyone is claiming. Let's make a true stand and let our district include its residents be a part of the decision. Without the questions being raised about this levy, the district would have provided us with nothing more then a simple FAQ and a pie chart.

Show up next week and remember this is for the TRUE future of Lakewood. Voting YES on increased property taxes hasn't kept the community growing. Let's try something else.

The district has mentioned this multiple times during their presentations. Though this is a good thing, how does this compare to other similar districts? This is only a snapshot against overall inflation - why are we not looking against how other districts fare in general against inflation? This would be a better indicator, especially knowing COVID increased many industry expenses.

The district is still looking to reduce expenses. Though Lakewood City Schools is asking for a new levy, they hired a new Deputy Treasurer, a position which hasn't been needed in the past.

Why are additional administration positions being added when LCSD is looking to trim the fat?

There are a lot of questions many of us still have about the upcoming levy on May 5th. Until the district and treasurer were questioned specifically about funding and other options, we were given little more than a pie chart and a few bullet points.

Come to the League of Women's Voters meeting on April 14th at 7pm at the library to ask Megan Rohde more about the levy and find out why other options were not explored. We know we cannot rely on state and federal government - but we have to be able to control what we can to maintain the future of our children and Lakewood without a destructive levy.

When the Lakewood City School District was looking to repurpose one of its 7 elementary school districts last year, Lakewood City Council wanted to remain a neutral party. Though the schools are part of the fabric of the community, they wouldn't weigh in one way or another.

Fast-forward to 2026 and on March 16th a resolution by City Council was happy to endorse the upcoming levy, impacting all community members, not just current and future students of Lakewood.

Talk about hypocrisy within our city who will only speak up when politically necessary.
