Music and Creativity - For the Healing and Wellbeing of our Veteran Community. MusicWorks 4 Veterans - Making music accessible to Veterans while encouraging participation and creativity as a way towards healing and the betterment of lives. MW4V’s Music Projects, such as Music Nights held at Washington Soldiers Home in Orting WA, provide opportunity for veterans young and old to actively participate by sharing songs, musical performances, writings & stories. Creative collaborations are encouraged and it is not uncommon for there to be original song compositions to come from our programs. MusicWorks 4 Veterans, a 501c3, needs your support in the worthwhile efforts to expand access to music and creativity for veterans and families abroad. Another mighty fine time hosting our MW4V Music Night at American Lake VA CLC.

It’s always a great evening when we get to spend time with the Veterans here, and playing music for them is a treat for all of us. We truly love being there.

A big thank-you to the staff and volunteers who help residents get to and from our music events, and for the care and support you provide to our Veterans every day.

It’s also always a pleasure getting to play music with Vietnam Army Nurse Sarah Blum. Sarah is rock steady keeping the beat on her drum, and she’s simply a joy to be around. She also shared a few stories with us from her military service journey. Always interesting, always meaningful, and always appreciated.

I had the pleasure of presenting Sarah with two very special pieces of musical art created by none other than Jay, The Guitar Carpenter. Nice work, Jay! One was a miniature drum modeled after Sarah’s actual drum, along with a display piece featuring the cover of her book. Very creative and very cool.

It was also great to have Bill show up and play bass and guitar with us, and even sing a couple of songs. Bill, a retired firefighter of 23 years, has been steady in his support of MW4V and the Veterans we serve for several years now. We appreciate you, Bill!

And then there’s our old friend Doug, who we haven’t had the pleasure of playing music with in quite a while. Doug jumped in on bass for a few songs, including Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.”

Doug’s wife had asked me some time ago to learn the song because it’s one of his favorites. I’ll admit, it took me a lot of practice before I was willing to play it outside my own four walls. Doug and I had both been working on it separately, and this was the first time we actually brought it together and played it in front of anyone.

I think we did a pretty darn good job with it, too. I’m already looking forward to playing it again with Doug and seeing where we can take it from here.

Another grand ole music jam last night at the SMU TUB!

We had a great time trying out a few new songs, and it was especially fun having John—holding down the upright bass—step up and sing a few songs for us too. Good job, John!

Playing music together is always a good time, but just as important is getting to hang out, catch up, and enjoy each other’s company. I think we all look forward to that.

I also had the honor of presenting four of our guys with handmade mini guitars created by our friend Jay, “The Guitar Carpenter.” Once again, thank you, Jay, for sharing your talent and creating these very cool pieces of musical art for us. Having these to recognize some of the people who have become such a consistent part of our MW4V community is pretty special.

And, as always, a big thank you to Jorge E. Castillón-Sierra, Program Manager at the SMU Veterans Center, and to Saint Martin’s University for continuing to welcome us and giving us a great place to gather and make some music.

Our next open SoundVetJam will be at Lakewold Gardens on Wednesday, October 21, at 7:00 PM. We'd love to have you join us!

Some more random shots from both days (Mostly day 2) at the Fair. What a fun two days with some really great people.

We met many wonderful and interesting people at our booth & jam, made great connections, and we were treated to some amazing talent from our group and passersby. Random drop-ins are so much fun!

Thank you to everyone who participated Sunday and Monday. You made our entire time at the Fair so much fun. And, thank you to everyone who helped. You represented MW4V very well and made the load-in/setup - pack up/load-out a breeze!

Fun time at the WA State Fair in Puyallup! The first of 2 long days hosting our MW4V Booth & Jam. Keeping busy and having loads of fun.

There’s plenty of time today and tomorrow for you to come check it out and stop by our booth for a visit. We are in the NW Connections building, booths 6&7.
