How to Adopt Oakbrook Cat Rescue Kittens from Ziggy’s Cat Lounge
Thank you for considering adoption through Oakbrook Cat Rescue! We know choosing a new family member is exciting, and we want the process to be as smooth and transparent as possible.
Applying to Adopt
To adopt from Oakbrook Cat Rescue, you must first have an approved adoption application. Before submitting your application, you are required to meet the cats or kittens in person at Ziggy’s Cat Lounge. This step is important so you can spend time with the kittens, observe their personalities, and ensure you’re applying for the right fit for your home. If you already have an application on file from a previous visit let the staff at Ziggys know when you arrive.
Applications can be submitted at any time after you’ve met the kittens. While you are welcome to note specific kittens on your application, approval does not guarantee adoption of a particular kitty. Think of approval as a pre-approval to adopt through our rescue.
Once approved, you do not need to reapply for future adoptions unless your personal information or circumstances have changed.
After spending time with the kittens at Ziggy’s, it is your responsibility to let the lounge staff know which kittens you are interested in adopting. We strongly encourage applicants to keep an open mind and consider multiple kittens or pairs in case their first choice is no longer available.
We typically make adoption selections by Friday or Saturday during the week the kittens are staying at Ziggy’s. If you are chosen to adopt, you will hear from us via text or email. If you are not selected, please don’t worry—there will be new kittens at Ziggy’s each month, and we encourage you to try again.
We often receive many applications for the same kittens, especially certain highly sought-after ones. Our foster families are involved in helping select adoptive homes, as they know the kittens best and want to ensure the best possible fit for both the kitten and adopter. While you may not always be selected for your first choice, we promise the entire litter is equally wonderful, regardless of coat color or markings.
Considering the Commitment
Cats are a long-term commitment and often live 15 to 20 years or more. Before adopting, we ask applicants to carefully consider their future lifestyle and ability to provide lifelong care. Some things to think about include:
- Your age and long-term ability to care for a pet
- Your current and future health status
- Future moves or housing changes
- Financial stability
- Relationships, marriage, or future children
- Military deployment or major life changes
- Veterinary care and emergency expenses
Our goal is always a safe, stable, forever home.
Kitten Pair Policy
At OCR, we strongly prioritize bonded pairs and kitten companionship. If we receive one application for a pair and another for a single kitten, priority will typically go to the pair adoption.
We do not adopt single kittens into homes without another friendly cat already present. If you do not currently have another cat at home, you will need to adopt two kittens together, even if your application was initially submitted for a single kitten.
Veterinary Care Included
Every cat and kitten adopted through OCR is:
- Spayed or neutered
- Microchipped
- Combo tested for FIV and FeLV
- Vaccinated with age-appropriate vaccines
- Flea treated
- Dewormed
Adoption Checkout Process
OCR uses Shelterluv software, and all adoptions are completed digitally. When it is time to finalize your adoption, you will receive a text message with a checkout link.
During checkout, you will have the option to enroll in pet insurance. Whether you choose insurance through checkout or independently, we highly recommend having coverage for your new pet. Many rescue cats and kittens come from difficult backgrounds, and unexpected veterinary expenses can happen with any pet.
Additionally, many kittens are adopted before they are old enough to receive their rabies vaccine. After adoption, you should schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to discuss future vaccines, wellness care, and any additional recommendations.
Once adoption is finalized, you must contact Ziggy’s Cat Lounge to arrange pickup of your adopted cat(s). Pickups are typically scheduled on Sunday evenings.
Our Commitment to Our Cats
At Oakbrook Cat Rescue, we believe “once an OCR cat, always an OCR cat.”
We offer a 10-day money-back period following adoption. More importantly, if at any point during the cat’s life you are unable to keep them, contact Oakbrook Cat Rescue before rehoming.
We deeply appreciate you choosing rescue and trusting OCR to help you find your new family member. ❤️
