Lake Countyās distribution is COMPLETE!
I want to say thank you to all my volunteers for all the hours and days they spent away from their families!
This would have never been possible without our co-coordinator, Tracy, and all our volunteers, Rhonda, Carrie, Ileta, Lyssa, Hannah, Dom, Holly, Tiana, Ariel, Zoey, Crystal, David, Francy, Selena, and I know there a couple others, that Iām drawing a blank on their names. š¤¦āāļø Without all of these volunteers, this would not have been possible.
Huge shout out to City of Lakeport, for donating the use of their city chambers for now two years in a row for our distribution! We are so very thankful!
I know and understand that there were a few situations this weekend that became negative. I want to remind EVERYONE, that there is soooo much that pours into this weekend event itās not just putting tables up and filling them with toys and watching participants pick out toys for their children. Itās goes way beyond that. EVERY YEAR there is going to be some issue, itās just how it is. Weāre all human⦠nothing is going to change about that but we can make the big issues, smaller every year. This was the first year, where violence was threatened and that will NEVER be the answer nor will it be tolerated. I have been working with toys for tots for about 20+/- years, assisting as a coordinator in Mendocino County for about 10+/- years and took over Lake County last year (due to there not being a coordinator, which would have resulted in there not being a distribution)⦠it takes a lot of time, energy, dedication, and time away from work and my children, especially when two of my children have birthdays through the distributions and Christmas and through all of those commitments as a parent, we still show up to serve you!
Regardless of the situations including being threatened, I went to sleep last night struggling with the determination of continuing to run the campaign next year again, and critically remembering all the intense things that happened at this years distribution. Woke up this morning and like I do every year, I turned the leaf and told myself I canāt change a persons behaviors, but I can remind them that regardless of what theyāre going through and the disrespect that is shown, myself and my volunteers will continue to show up for their children⦠there may be some additional measures taken next year, and would love your input.
This post is not meant to be negative and if there are negative comments I will delete the comments.
I am considering for next year that individuals will be met at the main door of the building, verify their verification, and then a volunteer will proceed into the hall to pick out gifts⦠additionally next year, NOBODY will be allowed or authorized to stand in line until the morning of the distribution.
I am eager to hear all of your thoughts and ideas, and welcome feedback, not complaints, as this post is not for that.
