In one of my last official duties as Polemarch….
I had the privilege of representing the Lakeland Alumni Chapter at the Kappas at the Capitol Conference, held June 7–10, 2026, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
The conference brought together Kappa men from across the country to strengthen our understanding of public policy, advocacy, civic engagement, and political awareness. The event featured educational sessions and panel discussions led by elected officials, policy experts, educators, and national leaders covering topics such as healthcare, economics, voting rights, technology, and civic participation.
Highlights of the conference included:
* Participation in advocacy and political awareness training sessions designed to equip Kappa men to be more effective community advocates.
* Attendance at economic and voting rights panels featuring national experts and public officials.
* Networking with brothers from across all provinces and exchanging ideas on chapter programming, community engagement, and political action initiatives.
* Hearing from distinguished speakers representing organizations focused on health policy, economic development, civil rights, and voter engagement.
On Capitol Hill Day, brothers traveled to the United States Capitol for a group photo and legislative meetings. We had the opportunity to engage with congressional offices and discuss issues impacting our communities, including voting access, healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and social justice. These discussions reinforced Kappa Alpha Psi’s commitment to informed citizenship and advocacy.
The conference concluded with a reception at the Historic Kappa House and provided valuable opportunities to build relationships with brothers committed to advancing the fraternity’s objectives through civic engagement and public service.
My participation in Kappas at the Capitol was both informative and inspiring. The experience reaffirmed the importance of Kappa Alpha Psi’s role in promoting political awareness, community advocacy, and leadership. I look forward to sharing insights gained from the conference and exploring ways our chapter can continue to strengthen its civic engagement efforts within Polk County and throughout our service area.
