Lake Waccamaw Lions Club

Lake Waccamaw Lions Club The Lake Waccamaw Lions Club was chartered on March 7, 1947. A Boy Scout Troop was sponsored and supported by the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club for many years.

In 1958, the club sponsored the state Lions resolution that declared the Boys and Girls Homes as a statewide project for North Carolina Lions. In 1968, the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club entered into an agreement with Boys and Girls Home that enabled the club to build a horse show arena and other related facilities on their property for the purpose of having horse shows, rodeos and other fund raising ac

tivities. The club also sponsored the local volunteer fire and rescue squad which was organized by Lion William S. Edmund. The club purchased the first piece of fire equipment and contributed financial support in the early years. Over thirty-five years ago, the club started sponsoring Little League Baseball for Lake Waccamaw youth. Today the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club is very active with numerous service projects which include; providing eyeglasses for the visually impaired, the Peace Poster Contest for Flemington Academy and Hallsboro Middle Schools, Brighter Vision for VIPs, support for the Boys and Girls Home through concession stand sales at the horse shows, the Lake Waccamaw Food Pantry, Eyeglass recycling, and visual screening of youth through PlusOptix.
