Courageous Connections Equine Encounters

We also cater to special population groups and provide programming for Caregiver Burnout, Domestic Abuse Survivors, and people in addiction recovery.

Our mission is to promote the physical and emotional development of people of all ages and unique abilities through safe, therapeutic, outdoor experiences with horses. We serve individuals across the lifespan with Down's syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and behavioral health conditions, as well as those with Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. We are committed to providing a relationship-based community which fosters a sense of purpose, personal growth, and empowerment for all.

With heavy hearts, we share some sad news. Our sweet goat Bodie got sick, and even with lots of love and care, he did not recover. 💔

Bodie brought so much joy to our farm and to everyone who met him. We will miss him very much.

Goats are herd animals, and they should never live alone. Bodie's brother Benny needed a friend by his side. So we rescued Tank! 🐐

Tank is now part of our farm family, and Benny has a new buddy. Please join us in remembering Bodie and giving Tank a big, warm welcome. 💛

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️

About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will get breast cancer in their lifetime. That's someone in your family, your circle of friends, or our own farm community.

Here's the hopeful part: when it's found early, the 5-year survival rate is over 99%. 💜

A few ways to show up for yourself and the people you love this month:
✔️ Learn the signs and notice any changes
✔️ Book your mammogram (every 2 years for ages 40 to 74)
✔️ If breast cancer runs in your family, ask your doctor what's right for you
✔️ Share this with someone who needs the reminder

Courage looks different for everyone. Sometimes it's simply making the appointment. 🐴

Find it early. Face it together.

Another 94 pounds of fresh produce and eggs went to the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank this week! 🥕🥚
That brings our total for the year to 1,226.5 pounds. That's more than three times what we gave last year! 💚

Thank you to everyone who helps us grow, gather, and give.

Our very first apple! 🍎
The young Liberty apple tree in the Courageous Connections orchard just gave us its first harvest. Just one apple, but look at that deep red color!
Of course we had to take a bite. 😋

Fun fact: Liberty apples were bred to fight off common apple diseases. The name even stands for "freedom from disease." That makes it a great fit for our farm.
One apple this year. Many more to come. Thank you for growing with us! 🌱

🎨🍂 Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our Sip and Paint! 🍂🎨

What a brilliant evening! We had so much fun creating fall themed pumpkin masterpieces together. Our favorite part? Seeing everyone's unique take on the same pumpkin. No two were alike, and every single one was full of personality. 🎃

And can we talk about that cozy atmosphere? Painting to the soothing sound of pouring rain on the arena roof was the most relaxing way to spend a fall evening. 🌧️☕

A huge thank you to Olga for being such a gracious, encouraging, and helpful instructor. You made everyone feel like an artist, and we are so grateful! 💛

Thank you all for laughing, painting, and making memories with us. We can't wait to do it again!

🌻 Farm Adventure Thursdays are here! 🌻

Looking for a fun way to spend a Thursday? Come explore our working farm! Farm Adventure Day is a 1.5 hour, hands-on visit made for families, small groups, and homeschoolers.

Each visit includes:

🐐 Hands-on time with our animals
🥕 A tour of our farm and garden
🎨 Fun activities and more

📅 When: Thursdays, 11:00am to 12:30pm
💲 Cost: $20 adults, $10 youth
🍂 How long: Through October, as long as the good weather holds!

Homeschool families, this is a great hands-on learning day. Kids get to explore, learn, and connect with animals and nature.

A Peek Inside an EAL Session

What does an Equine-Assisted Learning session at Courageous Connections actually look like? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and that’s part of the magic!
A session might include grooming a horse, learning to read body language, leading a horse through an activity, observing the herd, or working through a hands-on challenge. Along the way, participants can practice communication, trust, boundaries, problem-solving, confidence, and emotional awareness.

The horses offer something pretty special: immediate, honest feedback. Through their interactions with the herd, participants can explore new ways to approach challenges while building meaningful connections in a safe, supportive environment.

At Courageous Connections, the horse is the teacher, the experience is the lesson, and every participant’s journey is unique.

Want to be part of the journey? Our volunteers play an important role in creating these meaningful experiences for participants. Whether you’re helping during classes, caring for the farm, working in the garden, or supporting behind the scenes, there are many ways to get involved.
