Sertoma Golf ⛳️ Tournament Weekend

We came out this weekend to help the golfers on this very hot weekend by grilling them some hotdogs and sausages. We had a great time and we appreciate the opportunity to serve our community.

This past week our Highlands County Explorers participated in the annual FSEA State Conference, where they got to apply what they learned and compete against other counties from around Florida.

Many memories were made and lessons learned. We'd like to highlight a couple achievements from this week.

Our senior advisor, Deputy Shannon Roberts, was appointed by the FSEA Advisory Board as the new Vice President over the FSEA.

Explorer Sergeant Lazaro Perez, campaigned and was voted in as the new West Central Vice President for the FSEA Explorer Board.

Retired Explorer Captain Jaxson Turner ended his term as the president of the FSEA Explorer Board with a warm heartfelt message for all the explorers in Florida to carry with them.

CPT. Jaxson Turner recieved the Florida Sheriff's Association Law Enforcement Academy Scholarship in memory of Deputy Joshua Moyers for his commitment and dedication to Law Enforcement.

Multiple shooting awards were earned by explorers in our post, to highlight:

SGT. Lazaro Perez recieved the Match Winner award in the shooting competition with the highest score of 451 out of 500 in the rimfire divison.

Retired Explorer Lieutenant Osiris Santis recieved the March Winner award in the shooting competition with the highest score of 475 out of 500 in the centerfire division.

LT. Osiris Santis also recieved the Top Shot 2026 Shooting Award for having the highest cumulative score of 1756 out of a possible total of 2000, out shooting all other 448 Explorers all year long.

To Jaxson and Osiris, this isn't goodbye, this is us being so proud of you two, and congratulating you both on starting your new chapters with the Sheriffs Office.

A special thank you to Sheriff Paul Blackman for speaking at the opening ceremony earlier this week. As well a thank you to Major Hood, Lieutenant K. Gunn, and Lieutenant W. Gunn for their support to the program and making the trip up to see our Explorers.

FSEA State Conference Underway in Osceola County!

Last night marked the opening ceremony of the Florida State Explorers Association (FSEA) State Conference, where Explorers from across the state have gathered for a week of competition, leadership, and skill-building. This year's conference includes 34 Explorer posts representing their agencies and a total of 448 attendees.

We are especially proud that Sheriff Paul Blackman was selected as this year's guest speaker, delivering an inspiring and motivational message to our future leaders.

Sheriff Blackman was joined by one of our own, Explorer Jaxson Turner, who currently serves as President of the Florida State Explorers Association and represents Explorers on the FSEA Board of Directors.

We're also proud to recognize Deputy Shannon Roberts, Senior Advisor for Highlands County Explorer Post 2247, who was recently elected Vice President on the advisor side of the FSEA Board.

Throughout the week, Explorers will compete in a demanding schedule running from 7:00 a.m. until midnight each day, testing their knowledge, skills, teamwork, and leadership. We know Post 2247 will represent Highlands County with pride and professionalism.

A special thank you to Sheriff Paul Blackman, Major Darin Hood, and Lieutenant Kimberly Gunn for your unwavering support of this outstanding program. We'd also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Lieutenant Wayne Gunn for dedicating extra time with us on the range, helping prepare our Explorers for the fi****ms competition.

We're ready—and we can't wait to see what this week brings. Good luck, Post 2247!

Next week, our Explorers from Post 2247 will be traveling to Orlando to compete in the 2026 Florida Sheriff's Explorers Association State Competition. Today, several of our Explorers had the opportunity to get in one final practice session before the competition.

Competition begins next Sunday with the opening ceremony, featuring our honored guest speaker, Sheriff Paul Blackman. We are excited to represent our county and showcase the hard work and dedication our Explorers have put in throughout the year. We hope to bring home some trophies!

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the instructors from our Training Unit and SWAT Team who have dedicated their time and expertise to help prepare our Explorers for this competition. We look forward to representing our county and Post 2247 with pride!

Special thanks to Pastor Angelo for the continued support for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program. We were invited and honored to enjoy a delicious fish fry, fellowship with the church community, and enjoy some really good dessert. Pastor Angelo presented our program with a check for $1500 to help support our youth. ♥️
