The girls in San Juan Comalapa's Girls Club are nearing the end of "Judy Moody Goes to College" by Megan McDonald. Like all the books selected for our girl's program, this book tackles important issues such as self-esteem, positivity and gratitude. This week they discussed the concept of "gratitude." Each girl made her own gratitude tree on which they wrote down what they were grateful for. Here are some of the girls with their gratitude trees.

Check out this dedicated reading and writing room at the Agua Caliente School in San Juan Comalapa. We would like to thank the principal, Mr. Isaías, who made this room possible. To have a happy, welcoming space like this helps students value reading and writing. We can hardly wait to see kids enjoying this space.

La escritura es el puente donde la imaginación de los niños convierten sueños en historia llenos de magia // Writing is the bridge where children's imaginations transform dreams into stories filled with magic.

A teacher shared this sentiment with us when they sent along these photos of students presenting their creative writing. These books are proof that it is true. These stories are fun, heart warming and were lovingly prepared by the students at a small school in Tacajalve in San Francisco el Alto.

Every Tuesday in the town library in San Juan Comalapa the girls clubs meet up. At this meeting the girls discussed "Art-i-tude" from the book Judy Moody Goes to College. After a lively discussion, the girls got creative, making art that matched their arti-tude.

How do you get your students to engage? You get creative!

Teachers at Pamezabal, Santa Lucía Utatlán are practicing reading aloud to their students. This teacher came up with her own creative way to motivate students to participate, and it looks like it is working!

Over the weekend a few more photos of World Book Day came in that are too good not to share. Santa Apolonia had a book festival featuring a reading mural that students could explore as well as singing, dancing and read-aloud story time. It looks like a great time was had by all!

Join us in celebrating World Book Day!

At the Maya Kaqchikel School they celebrated with a "My First Writing" event where students read and shared books they published with classmates. The excitement was palpable - with students taking create interest in sharing their own work and reading the writings of others.
