We save dogs at LA shelters, and our sanctuary cares for dogs, horses and farm animals who need a safe place for life at Wild Horizon Farm. est, our rescue focuses first and foremost on saving dogs from high-risk situations in Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City shelters. We step in where the need is greatest—pulling dogs who are at risk due to overcrowding, medical needs, behavioral shutdown, or lack of resources. Many of the dogs who come to us have experienced stress, instability, or trauma. Our priority is to remove them from the shelter environment and give them the time, space, and structure they need to decompress. Once in our care, each dog enters a thoughtful rehabilitation process. This includes medical evaluation and treatment, behavioral observation, and daily routines that support emotional regulation and trust-building. We believe that successful adoption starts long before a dog meets a potential family. By allowing dogs to settle into a calm, rural environment, we are able to better understand who they are, what they need, and what type of home will allow them to thrive. Only after this process are dogs made available for adoption, with transparency and care taken to ensure the best possible match. Alongside our rescue work, Wild Horizon Sanctuary provides long-term and lifelong care for dogs and farm animals who are not adoptable due to age, medical conditions, or special needs. The sanctuary is an extension of our values, ensuring that every animal, regardless of outcome, is treated with dignity, safety, and respect. From dogs to horses and other rescued animals, sanctuary residents are given consistent care and the ability to live out their lives in peace. Wild Horizon Rescue & Sanctuary exists because the need is real and growing. We are committed to doing this work responsibly, sustainably, and with the animals’ best interests always at the center. This is what freedom looks like! ❤️🐾

Maggie wasn’t necessarily on our radar at North Central Shelter. Like so many dogs sitting behind those kennel doors, there are simply more dogs who need help than rescues have places for.

And then someone stepped up.

A long-term foster offer came through, giving her a safe place to land and the time she needs to decompress, settle in, and learn what life outside the shelter can be. Suddenly, we had the one thing that could change everything for her: a place to go.

And not a moment too soon.

Maggie was just hours away from dying in the shelter. Instead, she walked out those doors. She got her freedom ride. She gets to sleep somewhere safe tonight. She gets tomorrow. ❤️

These are the moments that remind us why fosters matter so damn much. When someone says, “I’ll take her,” it can literally be the difference between a dog leaving the shelter alive or never leaving at all.

Now Maggie gets to start figuring out what being a dog is supposed to feel like. She’ll have time to decompress, consistency, routine, love, and people committed to helping her become the very best version of Maggie she can be.

Mariana is settling in beautifully, and every day she reminds us why it’s so important to give dogs the chance to decompress before deciding who they are.

She’s continuing to work with our trusted behavioral trainer, and while her evaluation is still ongoing, everything we’ve seen so far has been incredibly encouraging. As you can see in this video, she’s relaxed, engaged, and enjoying the process of learning and building trust.

We’re not rushing to label her or make promises before we have all the information. Our commitment is to let Mariana show us her true personality at her own pace so we can make the best decisions for her future.

We’ll continue sharing updates as she progresses, but for now, we’re celebrating this step in the right direction and cheering her on every day. ❤️

Eros would’ve ruled the ’80s!! 💅🏼👩‍🎤

Big hair? Check. Glamour shots? Check. The confidence to steal your spot on the couch even though she’s over 100 pounds? Absolutely.

Meet Eros, our four-legged supermodel. She came to us completely by chance. We were at the shelter to rescue another dog when her owner surrendered her, and there was no way we were leaving without this sweet girl, too.

Eros is everything you’d hope for in a best friend. She’s calm, gentle, endlessly loving, and convinced every dog she meets is already her new bestie. She’s playful when it’s time to play, but happiest simply leaning against you… preferably while pretending she’s a lap-dog sized.

Now all this cover-girl needs is a family of her own!!

Meet Romeo 🤍

At 14 years old, Romeo’s needs are simple and few. He’d love a quiet home, a comfy lap, and people to love! He was taken in on a temporary basis by a dear friend of ours, but it’s time for this cutie to find his forever home and our friend has asked for help.

This handsome senior boy is believed to be a possible Maine C**n mix, and while he may be a little spicy at times, he’s also incredibly affectionate and deeply people-oriented. His favorite place is right next to his humans.

Romeo has CKD (chronic kidney disease), but it’s currently well-managed with special food, occasional fluids, and routine care. 👉 The good news? His food and medical needs will be *covered for the rest of his life*. Whomever opens their home to him won’t be doing this alone. His current family has come to love him and would really like to remain part of his life as they’re graciously providing ongoing support every step of the way.

He’d do best in a calm home without young children, ideally with someone who works from home or spends a lot of time there. Romeo would likely thrive as the king of the castle in a home without other cats. He may be okay with dogs depending on the situation.

He comes with all the supplies he could ever need. What he’s really missing is someone willing to give a senior cat a soft place to land and the love he deserves.

We’re so excited to update you all about Brooklyn because she’s really coming into her own and it’s the best thing to watch!

This girl is a two-time shelter survivor and somehow still the sweetest, squishiest, most lovable little meatball. She’s now in her Northern California foster home and being absolutely spoiled (as she should be), and her personality is finally popping.

Current favorite activity? Sunbathing. Fully committed. If there’s a patch of sunlight, Brooklyn will find it and park herself there like it’s her full-time job.

Her foster is also getting her out on neighborhood walks so she can slim down a bit and feel her best, and she’s loving the routine, the attention, all of it.

She’s happy, she’s safe, and she’s ready for someone to call her their own.

Our good boy loves poking about, eating and snoozing ☺️ The good news is Grampaws seems to have more energy and stability now that he’s at our ranch. He’s very curious, but wasn’t quite sure what to make of the goats 🐐

We recently had him to the vet, and unfortunately, it wasn’t news we hoped for.

His blood and f***l tests revealed he has Giardia along with another infection, and he’s in the beginning stages of kidney failure.

The vet suspects Grampaws is well older than 10yrs and could’ve been hit by a car at some point. It would certainly explain most of his physical ailments.

Grampaws has muscle atrophy in his back end which is causing the lameness in his hind legs. But, the vet says it’s a spinal issue that will continue to progress.

The head tilt and walking in circles could be several things like brain damage from being hit by a car, senior dog dementia or vestibular disease. However, given his age, it’s not fair to put him through a battery of tests that aren’t going to change the outcome—especially when he’s incredibly stressed at the vet and tries to nip when he’s touched by strangers.

The vet thinks he may only have a few months left, so no matter what, we’re going to give him all the love, comfort and support he deserves.

🆘💔 HE MADE IT OUT OF BALDWIN PARK… BUT HE’S NOT OUT OF THE WOODS 💔🆘

10yr old Grampaws is safe. He is no longer waiting on a cold shelter floor to be forgotten.

But the reality of what he’s been through is hard to see.

He entered the shelter as a stray, and arrived to us in horrific condition. His coat is severely matted and crunchy to the touch. He reeks of urine. His back legs are caked in f***s.

This is not neglect from a few days.

This is what happens when a dog is left without care for far too long.

On April 1, he was started on a 10-day course of antibiotics for nasal discharge… but he was released to us with no medication provided, and still has the nasal discharge.

So now, everything falls on us to figure out quickly: what he needs, what he’s facing, and how to stabilize him.

We already know he has:
• A significant heart murmur
• Weak back legs
• Muscle loss
• Signs of systemic illness
• Possible neurological issues

We don’t know how much time he has left. But we do know this: He will not spend whatever time he has suffering and unseen.

Right now, he urgently needs:
• A full veterinary exam
• Bloodwork and diagnostics
• Grooming and medical cleaning
• Ongoing medication and supportive care

And for a senior dog in this condition… the costs will be high.

If you’re like us, you’ll agree this can’t be how Grampaws’s story ends, but we need your support. We’re asking for your pledges of at least $2,000 to help us help him. Vet bills for senior dogs are far greater than for healthy, young dogs. (Molly’s bill was nearly 3k) While there’s a lot going on with him health-wise that no vet can fix, we always want to get the clearest picture possible.

We don’t know how much time Grampaws has left, but we’ll make sure he’s loved and thoroughly spoiled. Many thanks to everyone who is advocating for this sweet boy.

This gentle senior, who once had a life outside these walls, is now waiting alone, confused, weak, and forgotten.

His body is failing him, a serious heart murmur, weakening back legs, muscle loss, and signs of illness, yet he is still holding on, quietly hoping someone will notice him before it’s too late.💔

I saw him, and I will never forget the look in his eyes.

That happy tail wag is everything! Brooklyn (aka Hyacinth) is free! We started emailing at 7:30 this morning begging for a chance to save her. After some back and forth, we finally got the green light and raced over to the Palmdale shelter to spring her 😍
This is the second time Brooklyn has escaped the shelter and we’ve promised her she will never know the inside of a shelter ever again! She was adopted, then returned back in 2022, adopted, then surrendered again.
We had an open space thanks to a recent adoption, but we’d love to get her into a foster or forever home.
She’s energetic, yet chill, and just as sweet as can be!
