** WARNING!! DANGER OF CUTENESS OVERLOAD!! **

Ok, canary fans! Canaries are another species that we rarely get. Strangely enough, we've had four canaries in the last few months. All four came from completely different places and at different times. The first two were red factor males. One was a found bird and the other was an impulse buy relinquishment. Both were adopted into the same home by a pre-approved adopter that was on our canary wait list.

Here we have Tiki and Skittles. Tiki is a male and lost his home of over 4 years when his human had to move to assisted living without him. Skittles was a found bird who ended up in an animal shelter and received no adoption interest while he or she was there.

If you're interested in adopting Tiki or Skittles, please email us for an adoption application at [email protected].

And, this is Ivan who was being offered as a free bird. Again, our group members stepped up and made sure that Ivan made it to us. Many thanks to Jennifer and to Julie for making that happen!

This is Wilma, an Adopt A Bird Network alumni who got lots of support and reactions from our wonderful group members at Avian Underdogs Rescue Association Friends and Associates Group. Wilma was at the Corona CA Animal Shelter and successfully exited there thanks to lots of effort from Kathy who picked her up and did the transport. Wilma is an Indian Fantail Pigeon whose feathers are broken and tattered. It's possible that Wilma is actually a Wilmer. We'll see.

We don't get this species very often, but this one came in today with a broken right wing. It was found in Anaheim. Pin-Tailed Whydahs are brood parasites. They are native to Africa, but there are a substantial number of them found in the wild here in Southern California.

Quick update on the Laguna Beach pigeon with the strange object in its chest. A couple of our eagle eyed pigeon pals quickly identified it as a dart from a blow gun. If you read the email received, a dart makes perfect sense since there was mention of something that looked like metal under one wing. The dart entered the chest, went completely through the body, and a portion of it is exposed under the wing. What a cruel cretin to do something like this.

Many thanks to Christine who went to Laguna Beach yesterday to check on the pigeon and ended up spending a lot of time on her day off to do it.

The bird flies well and is very wary and quick. Rescue efforts are continuing.
