What happens when teachers become afraid to speak honestly about student needs?

That is the larger question now confronting District 67 after longtime Cherokee Elementary Learning Behavior Specialist Mary Gould Moorhead said she was pressured to resign after raising concerns about student support.

At the School Board meeting, parents, staff, and students spoke out powerfully in her defense. One Cherokee parent called losing her “an absolute devastation” to the school community.

Parents Care is not in a position to determine every fact behind a personnel decision. But reasonable people should still be able to ask reasonable questions.

Was a veteran educator suddenly ineffective after years of service?

Or did speaking up for students place her in conflict with the administration?

A longtime Cherokee Elementary educator says she was pressured to resign after raising concerns about student support. Parents, staff, and students spoke out publicly in her defense, raising broader questions about teacher fear, student needs, and trust in District 67.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Today we especially remember George Alexander McKinlock Jr. of Lake Forest — believed to be the community’s first World War I casualty.

Behind every name is a family, a story, and a sacrifice that shaped the freedoms and community we enjoy today.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, we pause in gratitude for those who never came home.

We remember.
We honor.
We are grateful.

Celebrating LFHS Junior & Senior Prom 💙✨

A beautiful night filled with memories, laughter, friendship, and celebration for the students of Lake Forest High School.

From elegant dresses and sharp tuxedos to unforgettable moments with friends, prom is one of those milestones that students will carry with them for years to come.

Congratulations to all of the LFHS juniors and seniors who made this prom season so special.

Wishing our students a safe, joyful, and unforgettable evening — and an exciting future ahead.

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

My name is Heather Kerr, and I’m honored to join Parents Care as Parent Liaison.

I’ve worked in and around our schools for more than 20 years — including at Cherokee, Deerpath, and Lake Forest High School — and I’ve seen firsthand how incredible our students, teachers, and families truly are.

That’s why the current direction of District 67 is so concerning.

Parents are being told Cherokee class sizes may increase from four classrooms to three next year, with roughly 24 students per class. Families say this was introduced without proper notice, meaningful dialogue, or clear supporting data.

At the same time:

• Teachers and staff are raising concerns about behavior, support, and classroom pressure
• Excellent educators reportedly feel ignored or pushed out for advocating for students
• The district continues spending nearly $10,000 per month on outside PR consultants through Allerton Hill
• Administrators continue taking networking and conference trips, including recent travel to California
• The communications department is expanding further while classrooms face cuts

That contrast is outrageous.

This is not just a parent issue — it is a teacher issue. Larger classes mean less individual attention for students and greater strain on already overworked teachers.

Our children deserve classrooms prioritized over bureaucracy. Our teachers deserve support instead of instability. And our community deserves leadership focused on students — not image management.

Over the past three years, I’ve watched Parents Care ask tough questions, demand transparency, and stand with families when others would not. That is why I decided to join this organization.

I look forward to working alongside parents, teachers, and community members who believe our schools can and must do better.

Lake Forest parents: this next hire matters.

District 67 and 115 are choosing new safety leadership after a period of serious concern over transparency, communication, and trust.

Our children’s safety depends on getting this right.

Read the latest from Parents Care.

With the retirement of Head of Security Chuck Walsh, District 67 and District 115 face a critical decision. The next security leader must bring independence, urgency, transparency, and real school-based experience to protect students and rebuild community trust.

Parents Care sent the following questions to every District 67 Board member:

1. Do you believe the Administration properly disciplined the alleged perpetrators in the recent Deer Path Middle School incident?

2. Do you believe the School Board should meet in the near term to review how the Administration handled this situation?

3. Do you believe the Superintendent’s public communication appropriately reflected the seriousness of the situation, demonstrated empathy for affected students and families, and addressed community concerns?

4. To your knowledge, does the District currently have a clear, written policy governing when and how parents and the broader school community are notified of serious student safety incidents?

5. Are you satisfied that the District’s current approach to notifying parents and the community about serious incidents is clear, consistent, and appropriately transparent?

6. Do you believe the District should adopt or clarify a formal policy that defines what types of incidents trigger notification, what information should be disclosed, and how and when families are notified?

We requested responses by May 5, 2026 at 7:00 PM and will publish each response in full.
