ABOUT ADOPT A PUP ANIMAL RESCUE, INC. [email protected]
A strictly volunteer licensed corporation, not for profit, Adopt A Pup was established in 2012 and is dedicated to saving homeless, stray, and unwanted dogs not only in Michigan but throughout the country. We've rescued dogs throughout Ohio, Tennessee, and even as far as Guatemala. Our Officers, fosters, and other volunteers all

lead busy personal and professional lives in addition to rescue, and receive no compensation whatsoever for the multiple hours per week they devote to the rescue. We promote sterilization and awareness of the plight of shelter dogs all over the country. HOW CAN YOU HELP OUR ORGANIZATION? Donations: We rely on monetary donations, gift card donations (gas and pet store), supply donations (new/used blankets & towels, dog food, toys, leashes, dishes, cleaning supplies, etc.). We also need supply drop-off locations. If you have an easy to locate home or possible business location and would be willing to allow supplies to be dropped off, please let us know. PayPal donations can be made to [email protected]. Sponsorship: If you'd like to sponsor one of our dogs or cats, that would help cover the cost of vetting! Fostering: We are a strictly foster-based rescue which means we do not have a kennel or other facility where we can temporarily keep our rescued animals. Our GREATEST need is foster homes for dogs and puppies. We will do our best to match you up with a foster dog that is a good fit for your household, so we will ask you to complete a brief questionnaire. Adopt A Pup covers the vetting, and can assist with food and supplies. It would be helpful and appreciated if fosters could cover some food and supplies. You may also be asked to drive the foster dog to the vet and to adoption events. Volunteering: We need help distributing flyers, transporting animals to spay/neuter appointments and from shelters to safety, web-managers for social networking sites, fundraising help such as can drives or bake sales. We’d love to utilize your special talents. Let us know what you can help with!! OUR WONDERFUL SPONSORS:

Help us help LoLo!

LoLo was found in pitiable condition- emaciated, covered in her own filth, and extremely timid. She had never received veterinarian care and had never left the kennel where she was born. LoLo spent most of her time confined in a crate. As a result, her front legs bow out.

We had hoped with some veterinary care and weight gain, that this adorable girl would soon blossom and be ready for adoption.

Unfortunately, LoLo has a condition called E.P.I., a medical condition where the pancreas fails to produce enough digestive enzymes to properly break down and absorb food, leading to malnutrition, diarrhea, and weight loss.
Despite excellent care and nutritious food, until we figured out what was wrong, LoLo continued to
lose weight, getting down to skin and bones at 36 pounds. She had been starving to death and would have died had we not stepped in to help her.

We believe we are on the right track with LoLo’s condition and she has started to gain weight. She also has much more energy and is slowly but surely coming out of her shell; what a sweet girl she is despite all she’s been through.

The costs of LoLoLo’s medical care have quickly added up to over $1500.
In addition, the enzymes, B12, probiotics, prednisone, and special diet which LoLo requires to be healthy, add up to about $250 monthly.

We are seeking funds to help cover LoLo’s medical costs and monthly medications until she is ready for adoption.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us continue to help LoLo get the care she needs. While there is no cure for E.P.I., with the proper care, LoLo can live a happy life.

If you can’t donate right now, sharing this fundraiser is also incredibly helpful

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.

Socialization is very important but often misunderstood!

Socialization is very important but often misunderstood!

It doesn’t mean playing.
It never did.
“Socialisation” has a lot to answer for.

It has a far more important meaning, and it’s often missed because of that one word.

It’s not all about interactions with other puppies or dogs. That’s a very small part of it.
Yet we get stuck thinking socialisation = play.

That’s the issue.

Socialisation is the whole world around them.
The one we’re used to. They’re not.

And if we reduce it to just play with other dogs?
Problems are on the way.

Socialisation is about teaching safety.
Creating safety.
Letting your puppy feel safe.

Even if they’ve never seen a plane or heard a crowd, the goal is the same.
Slow, careful exposure so they can take it in without overwhelming them.

We forget, or maybe don’t fully appreciate, how much they need to get used to in our world.

Socialisation is careful, positive exposure.
Acclimation.
And yes, a level of "neutrality".

Wet grass.
Stairs.
Rain on their head.
A cat passing by.
A scooter moving past.

The goal was never just play.

Great information for pet owners about dogs and garlic!

Great information for pet owners about dogs and garlic!

Garlic for dogs 🧄…let’s clear this up 👇

Garlic often gets labeled “toxic” because it’s related to onions, but here’s the nuance: garlic contains about 1/15th the amount of the compound linked to toxicity and is actually recognized as a safe ingredient in commercial pet foods (AAFCO).

In small, appropriate amounts, garlic provides allicin, which may support:
❤️ Heart health
🛡️ Immune function
🦠 Antimicrobial support

The studies often cited to claim harm? They used extreme doses…the equivalent of feeding a 70 lb dog ~245 cloves of garlic in one week (yes, really). Even then, no dogs showed outward symptoms, just minor microscopic changes in some red blood cells.

The amounts in this graphic fall well within safe daily feeding guidelines 👍

🐈 For added context: the National Research Council has even set a historical safe intake for cats at 17 mg/kg of body weight, further highlighting that dose matters.

Bottom line:
Garlic isn’t the villain - it’s the amount that matters.

📌 Save this for reference & always stick to proper serving sizes 🐶🐱

The Upper Peninsula continues to dig out after being dumped with historic snow amounts, but that isn’t stopping this pup from visiting his buddy nearby. We so appreciate viewers sharing their photos with us. Barb Goldberg shared this one from Marquette with Dave Rexroth.

Let’s talk about xylitol, one of the sneakiest dangers for dogs. 🐶⚠️

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is extremely toxic to dogs and can cause dangerously low blood sugar and liver failure. 🚨

And the annoying part?
It hides in a LOT of things. 👀

Like:
• sugar-free gum 🍬
• candy 🍭
• peanut butter 🥜
• vitamins 💊
• toothpaste
• drink powders 🥤

Basically, if something says “sugar-free,” it’s worth checking the label. 🔎📋

Because while your dog may look innocent… 😇
they are absolutely capable of stealing an entire pack of gum when no one is looking. 👀🐶
