And that’s a wrap on Golden West Region 21 contest!

What a beautiful surprise it was to tie with for the audience choice award in the chorus contest! OC Sound came away with 3rd place medals and 2nd in Division AA (medium size chorus). We had a blast! Now a week of respite before getting back on to the risers for some brand new repertoire 🤩

Job well done today… OC Sound is the third place medallist in the Golden West Region 21 – Sweet Adelines contest, and second in division AA. And the most important part? We had SO. MUCH. FUN!!

Next up, our Baritone Section Leader - Joyce! With 50 years in Sweet Adelines and a history with OC Sound stretching back to 1984, she has seen more of this chorus than almost anyone. She's been our Baritone Section Lead for 13 years, and it shows in every warm, confident chord her section sings.

What drives Joyce? Watching her singers improve. She loves getting to know each person in her section and arming them with the tips and tricks that turn "pretty good" into "wow." As regionals approach, that's exactly where her energy goes — sharpening problem areas and then turning up the hype. Her baritones don't just show up prepared; they show up fired up.

And her favorite competition tradition? Before taking the stage, Joyce gives each member of her section a gift and a handwritten note of gratitude. Because she knows that feeling seen and appreciated is half the performance.

A lifetime of harmony, and she's still pouring her heart into every rehearsal. We're so lucky to have you, Joyce! 💚

Leading up to competition this weekend, we are spotlighting our section leaders, starting with our Tenor Section Lead - Andrea! She's been singing with Sweet Adelines since January 1969 (yes, you read that right — she started with her mom's chorus in New Jersey at young age). Barbershop is literally in her DNA: her dad was a 'shopper too.

She rejoined OC Sound in May 2024, and it didn't take long for her to step into a leadership role. As section leader, Andrea's focus is simple and powerful: build real relationships with her fellow tenors, help them sound like one voice, and make sure everyone's having a blast while doing it.

With regionals on the horizon, she's zeroed in on unit sound, blending, and ringing those beautiful chords. As for traditions? She's honest: "Not yet!" — which means the tenors get to create something new together this year.

✏️Last night was Friends & Family Night and we had a blast! 🎉
🎶 Standing room only in the social hall — you all packed the place and gave us so much audience energy and we loved every second of it! 🙌

We got to preview and dress rehearse our full contest set, plus debut a brand new song (with one-week-old choreo) for a live audience. And three amazing quartets took the stage too. What a night! ❤️

Taking the stage as Competitor #4 at the Region 21 Sweet Adelines International Competition in Phoenix on Friday, April 10, this quartet is bringing brains, balance, and a serious love for the spotlight.

🎶✨ That’s a wrap on Retreat Weekend! ✨🎶

What happens when you mix intense rehearsal, a little choreography, and a whole lot of personality? One of the funniest, most productive retreats we’ve ever had. 💙

We spent the weekend fine-tuning every note of our contest set, learning fun facts about each other (some we definitely won’t forget 😄), and sharing plenty of laughs… and yes, a few emotional moments too.

And then came the fun.
🛏️ Pajama party dinner
🎤 Chorus-themed Jeopardy
🎭 A hilarious greenhorn sitcom skit that absolutely stole the show
🎶 Quartet performances that had us crying from laughter including a Little Mermaid-inspired 🧜‍♀️quartet in full onesies that we’ll never unsee

We laughed, we cried, we bonded—and somewhere in between, we got really ready for regional competition.

The best part? We’re walking away more connected, more confident, and more in harmony than ever.
