ASSE Study Abroad About ASSE
The history of ASSE goes back to 1938, when the Swedish Ministry of Education instituted an exchange program for Swedish and German students.

In the post-World War II era, this was expanded to include Great Britain, France, Spain, and Switzerland and later the United States, where ASSE was established in 1976 by the Swedish Government as the American Scandinavian Student Exchange. Soon, Denmark, Norway, and Finland elected to participate. At present, ASSE works closely with the Canadian provincial ministries of education. It maintains 3

An exchange year is also about sharing your own culture. 💙

From family traditions and favorite recipes to holidays and everyday habits, exchange students often leave a lasting impact on their host families too. Because cultural exchange goes both ways… and sometimes, both sides end up gaining a second family and a new perspective on the world.

We explore this in our latest blog 👉https://studyabroad.asse.com/blog/can-exchange-students-bring-their-own-culture-to-their-host-family/

Many exchange students stay in touch with their host families for years. Celebrating milestones, sharing updates, and sometimes even visiting again. What starts as a host family relationship can become something much more meaningful.
