Let's talk to our children about bullying! Let them know they can be the help someone needs. October is National Anti-Bullying Month.

October was first declared as National Bullying Prevention Month in 2006. Since then, October has been a time to acknowledge that bullying has devastating effects on children and families such as school avoidance, loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression. Bullying can occur in multiple ways. It can be verbal, physical, through social exclusion, or via digital sources like email, texts, or social media. Unlike mutual teasing or fighting, bullying occurs when one person or a group of people is perceived as being more powerful than another and takes advantage of that power through repeated physical assaults, threats of harm, intimidation, or by purposefully excluding a person from a valued social group. Being bullied can severely affect the person’s self-image, social interactions, and school performance and can lead to mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, and substance use, and even suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Sheriff Craig Webre has announced a list of 18 block party locations in Lafourche Parish for the 43rd Annual Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies will be visiting each location to speak with area residents about crime prevention and neighborhood concerns. As a reminder, beginning this year, the time has changed in Lafourche Parish to 5 p.m. To 8 p.m.

Here is a list of block party locations around Lafourche Parish:

- Thibodaux Family Church (785 N. Canal Blvd., Thibodaux)

Each block party will be unique and offer various interactive activities for children and adults, including the opportunity to paint handprints on deputies’ vehicles. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will be providing food and refreshments at each party. Food will be provided by our community partners: Sysco and Rendezvous Dining + Catering + Events. Paint for the handprints will be provided by Walmart.

On September 23, Kristy Monier, Coalition Coordinator took part in the Nicholls Counseling Center's Hazing Awareness Resource Fair. The event was held to provide information on campus and off campus resources, discussions of hazing prevention, support for a safe conference culture, and how alcohol can play a harmful role when it comes to hazing.

On September 14, Kristy Monier, Coalition Coordinator took part in the Nicholls Counseling Center's 7th Annual Su***de Prevention & Awareness Resource Fair. The event aimed to enhance su***de prevention and awareness while showcasing campus and community resources to students and faculty/staff.
