🚨 PLEASE STOP AND WATCH BOOG’S STORY
BOOG WAS FADING.
This tiny kitten is alive because help was available when minutes mattered.
On August 12, Boog’s mother, Bean, arrived critically ill following a life-threatening labor complication. She required oxygen, IV fluids, antibiotics, emergency surgery by Dr. Katie Habetz, and overnight monitoring. Boog, her only surviving kitten, also required neonatal stabilization.
Then, on August 19, Boog’s family called again.
Bean was no longer producing enough milk. Boog wasn’t himself. He was fading and making the heartbreaking cry we recognize as a neonatal emergency.
In a kitten this small, hypoglycemia and dehydration can become fatal incredibly quickly.
Boog’s owner and her 12-year-old son were frantic and heartbroken. While his mother drove nearly an hour to meet me, I stayed on the phone with her son and calmly talked him through exactly what to do to keep Boog going.
I had only met this child once before. Within two minutes, he calmed down, listened carefully, and followed every instruction.
That brave 12-year-old fought for his kitten the entire drive.
When they reached me, I immediately took Boog and began emergency stabilization. A couple of hours later, he finally began taking very small amounts of food.
Eleven days later, this is sweet Boog.
THIS is community impact.
It is a family having someone to call during one of the most frightening moments of their lives—when they are watching an innocent animal suffer and do not have the financial resources to access the care needed.
It is a child being empowered to help save the kitten he has quickly grown to love.
It is lifesaving guidance over the phone, emergency supplies ready when minutes matter, and experienced hands waiting when they arrive.
It is keeping an animal alive, keeping a family together, and preventing financial circumstances or distance from determining the outcome.
This is why Tate’s Legacy, Because of Brucey’s access-to-care program, exists.
Because of Brucey also provides neonatal and critical care, shelter and rescue support, emergency assistance, community resources, and a place to turn when other options have been exhausted.
Today, the organization that CONTINUES showing up for our community urgently needs our community to show up for us.
We need to raise $15,000 in emergency stabilization funding to protect the programs, supplies, equipment, and operations that make outcomes like Boog’s possible.
We are not sitting still and waiting for donations.
We are working tirelessly to secure grants, partnerships, sponsorships, and long-term funding. We are reducing expenses, contacting funders, building fundraising campaigns, and planning a major benefit cook-off for November.
But grants take time. Partnerships take time. Successful events take months of preparation.
We need emergency bridge funding to keep operating long enough for that work to succeed.
As founder and president, nearly every function of this organization currently falls on me: daily animal care, emergency response, fundraising, grant applications, donor communication, records, finances, social media, supply coordination, program development, administrative work, and event planning.
I have poured my time, heart, work, and every available personal resource into this mission.
I am exhausted. I am scared. Asking for this level of help is heartbreaking and humiliating.
But I am not ready to give up.
Not on Boog.
Not on Tate’s Legacy.
Not on the newborns and emergency critical cases.
Not on the shelters and families who call when they have nowhere else to turn.
Not on the connections we have made or the incredible people we have met.
Not on everything we have worked so incredibly hard to build.

🤝 We also urgently need volunteers for fundraising, grants, donor outreach, sponsorships, administrative support, social media, and our November benefit cook-off.
You do not need to know how to save a neonatal kitten to help save Because of Brucey.
If you can organize, write, contact businesses, pursue sponsors, coordinate vendors, help plan an event, or consistently take responsibility for one area, please message us.
If you reach out, please give us grace while waiting for a response. Daily animal care and emergencies must continue while we manage this campaign, and messages will be answered as time permits. Every offer of help matters, even if we cannot respond immediately.
If you cannot donate or volunteer, please share Boog’s story. Your share may reach the donor, sponsor, grant professional, business, or volunteer who helps protect our future.
Because of Brucey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Youngsville, Acadiana, and surrounding communities.
Please help us continue being there when the next call comes.
