Conceived by Founder & Director, Clare Cook, Basin Arts will be a creative space for artists in Acadiana. If you are a practicing dance artist, visual artist, theater artist, writer, musician, composer, or if you're searching for a place to continue and revive your craft, Basin Arts is for you. Some of our Basin Arts offerings:
Open Dance Classes for Adults
Visual Artist Studio workspace
Office space available for creative professionals
Rehearsal space for Dance and Theater companies
Professional Development Workshops for artists
An Art Gallery / 2nd Saturday Artwalk events
Creative Dance Classes for Kids and Families

Most importantly, Basin Arts is a space for artists to develop their own ideas. We provide the space and help you find the resources to make your ideas possible! Basin Arts is located at 113 Clinton Street in Lafayette, Louisiana, making it a part of the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District. The space is also a short stroll away from the Freetown-Port Rico neighborhood, recently assigned to the National Register of Historic Places. Both Downtown Lafayette and the Freetown-Port Rico neighborhood house many of Lafayette’s most creative businesses and individuals, putting Basin Arts right in the center of Acadiana’s artistic hub.

A little field trip to Basin Arts! 🎨✨

Today, we welcomed students from JS Clark Leadership Academy, accompanied by Grace Hamilton-Mayfield and Brad Mayfield, for a special visit to Imprints: A LINEAGE Exhibition, which honors Grace Hamilton-Mayfield and Francis Pavy!

During their visit, students explored the exhibition, toured our Visual Artists in Residence studios, and got a closer look at the creative work happening at Basin Arts.

We love opening our doors to the next generation of artists and art lovers! 💚

Congratulations to Foundation for Wellness on the opening of their beautiful new office in Lafayette’s Oil Center!

ART CIRCLE | Introducing Stella Walker 🩰

Stella Walker is a Lafayette-born ballet dancer who began her training at age five with Lafayette Ballet Theatre's Dance Conservatory. After years of dedication to developing her skills and deepening her passion for classical ballet, she is now continuing her training in the prestigious pre-professional program at Miami City Ballet.

Throughout her training, Stella has studied at renowned institutions, including the School of American Ballet in New York City and the Royal Ballet School in London. During her time with Lafayette Ballet Theatre, she trained under Mitzi and Shannon Heath and performed in numerous productions, including The Nutcracker, Coppélia, Cinderella, and The Sleeping Beauty.

Now continuing her training in Miami, Stella is expanding her artistic practice, exploring new dance styles, and connecting with dancers from around the world as she works toward her goal of becoming a professional ballet dancer.

Basin Arts is excited to partner with the La Place Coterie again this year for the Fightingville Holiday Stroll on Saturday, December 5 from 5:00–7:00 PM!

This free, family-friendly evening will bring neighbors together for a festive stroll through the historic Fightingville neighborhood, complete with holiday lights, live performances, neighborhood history, and a few surprises along the way.

WINDOW WONDERLAND IS BACK! ❄️

Are you a local artist or Downtown Lafayette business looking to get into the holiday spirit?

Applications are officially open for Window Wonderland 2026: Seasonal Snapshots, presented by Basin Arts in collaboration with Downtown Lafayette.

This year’s theme, Seasonal Snapshots, celebrates cherished holiday memories, timeless traditions, and December moments across generations, from vintage family photos and historic holiday scenes to the festive spirit of decades past and present.

Now in its seventh year, Window Wonderland pairs local artists with Downtown Lafayette businesses to transform storefront windows into original holiday art installations throughout December.

Selected visual artists will receive a $250 project stipend to support supplies and labor. Each completed display will also be entered into the Best Window Wonderland community vote, with a $500 cash prize awarded to the winning artist.

ART CIRCLE | Introducing Drake LeBlanc

Drake LeBlanc is a Lafayette-based filmmaker, multimedia artist, and creative director whose work is rooted in the culture, language, and heritage of Louisiana.

Through photography and filmmaking, Drake documents the people, traditions, and stories that shape the region while challenging familiar narratives. His recent project, Footwork, centers Black and Creole cowboy culture, highlighting the contributions of Creole, African American, and Native American communities to the traditions we now associate with the American cowboy.

Drake is the Founder and Creative Director of Above the Beyond Studios and co-founder of Tele-Louisiane, where he spent six years helping shape its creative direction and storytelling. Through each of these ventures, he continues to create space for Louisiana’s languages, histories, and culture to be seen, heard, and preserved.

OCTOBER ARTWALK | Imprints: A LINEAGE Exhibition

After spending the day at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, keep the celebration going and head downtown for October ArtWalk at Basin Arts!

Experience Imprints, an exhibition honoring the enduring creative legacies of 2025 LINEAGE Honorees Grace Hamilton Mayfield and Francis Pavy. Through artwork, documentary footage, and community-created pieces, Imprints explores the ways artistic knowledge, memory, and tradition are carried forward.

Also on view, stop by the Studio Gallery to see a selection of solo works by Stephen D. Stewart, featured through October 26.
