NEXT WEEK | Join us for the in-progress opening of Mom Mom's: The Sacred Ordinary, a ProjectSpace Residency project by . This exhibition is an installation that blends living history and communal art, a reconstruction of Bob’s Cajun grandmother’s 1980s living room and kitchen; a space that was decorated in the 1950s and never changed.
This immersive environment will function as artwork, social reenactment, and a third space, evoking a time when homes served as communal hubs for gathering with: coffee, conversation, food, and the occasional game of cards. As a living history interpreter, Bob has created historical displays at Vermilionville to interpret local culture. This project brings that experience, along with his background in varied art installations and curation, into more personal and cultural territory. Rather than reenacting distant or dramatic events from the past, this piece honors recent Cajun history that’s quietly slipping away.
Basin Arts’ ProjectSpace Residency is a dynamic and evolving interdisciplinary artist residency program in partnership with the Hilliard Art Museum. The residency provides professional artists from the Acadiana region with the structure, space, and support for research and development of new artistic work while deeply engaging the community in the creative process.
