LASSO Horse Rescue is a non-profit organization committed to giving horses a better future. Help us provide care, shelter and new homes to horses in need.

LASSO's mission is to enrich lives and strengthen the bond between people and horses through compassionate rescue & rehabilitation, community outreach, youth development, and equine-assisted programs that foster healing, growth, and opportunity. One of our primary programs is the use of the horses in our care in equine assisted therapy.

Apparently Rhobi has also discovered his second career… grooming shelf. 😂 Perfect height for holding all the brushes!

And seriously—WHERE does all the hair and dust come from?! You can brush and brush and somehow there’s always more. Horse people know… the grooming is never actually finished. 🤎🐴

🫏 A scary moment with our sweet Petey ❤️

Petey gave us quite the scare when he experienced choke while eating. Because horses and donkeys cannot vomit, food that becomes lodged in their esophagus can quickly become a serious emergency requiring veterinary care.

We are incredibly grateful for our amazing vets, ,LLC, who responded so quickly and took such great care of him. ❤️

Thankfully, Petey is doing great, feeling much better, and happily eating his mash! 🥰

We love you, Petey! 🫏❤️

🚨 We could really use our LASSO family right now. ❤️🐴

It’s been an especially challenging couple of weeks here at the rescue, and today we were handed one more unexpected problem.

Our barn refrigerator began overheating to the point that it became a potential fire hazard, so we’ve had to stop using it immediately. With a barn full of horses, fire safety is something we simply cannot take chances with.

We’re hoping someone in our amazing community may have a working refrigerator/freezer combo they would be willing to donate, or might be willing to contribute toward the cost of replacing ours.

Every unexpected expense hits a little harder when you’re caring for a rescue full of animals, and this one came at a particularly tough time. Any amount helps, and sharing this post helps too. ❤️

🐴 Chaco Update! ❤️

Good news — Chaco’s hoof abscess has finally broken through, and he is feeling SO much better! He’s already moving around much more comfortably. 🥰

Hoof abscesses are actually pretty common in horses. They’re basically a pocket of infection inside the hoof that causes a lot of painful pressure until it finally drains — and once it does, the relief can be almost immediate!

So happy to see our boy feeling better! ❤️🐴

Summer at LASSO: The Fly Mask Chronicles 🐴😂

Step 1: Put fly masks on horses.
Step 2: Horses immediately begin plotting their removal.
Step 3: Find fly masks in random locations across the pasture.
Step 4: Wash the dirt, mud, grass, and mystery substances off them.
Step 5: Put them back on horses.
Step 6: Repeat until approximately October. 🤦‍♀️

At this point, finding a fly mask still attached to the horse it belongs to feels like a small miracle. 😂

🐴 Dental Day at LASSO Horse Rescue! 🦷

It was such a special weekend getting to share one of my favorite places with my family. ❤️

Animals have always been a big part of our lives, so spending time together at LASSO Horse Rescue loving on the horses was the perfect way to make memories. My sister even runs her own rescue in North Dakota, Uffda Fund for Animals, so it’s safe to say compassion for animals runs in the family.

I’m so grateful we got to spend time together doing something we all truly love. 🐴💕
