When board member Karen Neuser, FSPA, reached out to the La Crosse County Tavern League for help raising money for residents, we had no idea the response would be so generous! This weekend, Jason Kniefl of Nick's Bar made a second donation of 1,317 pounds of aluminum cans! And Mike Berra volunteered to help Sister Karen deliver them to Alter Metal Recycling. Thank you, everyone!

The cans keep rolling in! Thank you to Rachel Rausa for this latest donation to support the residents of Karuna!

Board member Sister Karen Neuser, FSPA, continues to collect aluminum cans to raise money to support our residents during this transition time. Here she is accepting a huge can donation from Jason Kniefl, owner of Nick's Bar in Barre Mills. Along with helpers Mike and Patti Berra, they filled a black truck, a 5'x10' trailer and a pickup truck - and that was only half of the cans donated!

Thank you to Joe Berra, president of the La Crosse County Tavern League, and member taverns for helping raise funds for Karuna! Board member Sister Karen Neuser, FSPA, gratefully accepted the first of several loads of collected aluminum cans, which will be turned in for cash to help residents during this transition time.

As we wind down operations and continue to work with community partners to find housing solutions for our residents, we still have day-to-day expenses. Many of you have asked how you can help. We are still accepting donations at https://www.karunahousing.org/, and every dollar makes a difference.

Karuna Inc. is winding down its residential program because it no longer has the funding required to safely maintain 24/7 staffing. The Board is focused on resident safety, respectful transition planning, staff communication, preservation of belongings and records, and responsible closure of organizational obligations. We are grateful to Couleecap, Inc. for helping to coordinate support services, identify cross-community partners and pursue creative housing solutions for the residents we have been privileged to work with on building “lives worth living.” To protect privacy, the organization will not comment on individual residents, employees or private circumstances.

We are so proud to share that this year’s Conductor Wannabe competition has made an incredible impact in our community — raising a record-breaking $171,000 collectively for local causes.

A special congratulations to Angela Newman and Dave Wagner, who will lead the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra after bringing in the most donations in the history of the contest — an outstanding $70,000. Their efforts also give a powerful boost ahead of the upcoming ALS Walk in October, inspiring even more support and momentum for their team.

We also want to celebrate Nancy Allen, this year’s second-place winner, who raised more than $32,000 and used her platform to bring awareness to Karuna Housing.

Nancy shared her belief in Karuna’s mission and her hope that this exposure will help more people in the community learn about and support this growing organization. Her goal was simple but powerful — to help more people discover Karuna and the support it provides.

From all of us at Karuna Housing, we are deeply grateful for Nancy’s advocacy and heart for community. 💙

Congratulations to all the Conductor Wannabes for using music, leadership, and generosity to make a lasting difference in La Crosse.

🎶 The winners will take the stage this weekend with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m.
