Pop-up crafting event! The La Crosse Public Library has a lovely creation space that is open to all, including organizations like us who might want to host a social with our members. Anyone who would like to meet up as fellow myco-enthusiasts tomorrow, drop by any time between 1-3 pm, Thursday June 18!

The creation space is on the 2nd floor of the library, can't miss it. We'll inspire each other and make mushroom-themed crafts together using the myriad of craft supplies available. Fiber arts, magazine clippings, all sorts of paints, pens, markers, pencils, stamps, paper, a button maker, and much more is to hand. All skill levels welcome.

While this event is a pop-up, just to try it out, we'll be adding more of these to our schedule in the coming months, whenever we've got at least one volunteer to show up and the library create space grants us permission to host a group event.

Are you not in the La Crosse area? Would you like to host something with WMS at your own local library or public space? Leave a comment or otherwise get in touch :)

Join us this evening (11/20) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Cowley planetarium for our club meeting where we stream the monthly meeting of the Wisconsin Mycological Society. This month’s speaker is the author and mycologist Michael Beug! His talk is titled: Medicinal/Culinary Mushrooms: Fantastic Fungi to Save Body, Mind and Spirit.

Join us this evening (11/20) with Author and Mycologist Michael Beug!
Our subject for November is - Medicinal/Culinary Mushrooms: Fantastic Fungi to Save Body, Mind and Spirit

Michael Beug taught chemistry, mycology and organic farming at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington for 32 years. He is active in the North American Mycological Association (NAMA) and the Pacific Northwest Key Council; a group dedicated to writing macroscopic keys for the identification of fungi. He recently wrote "Mushrooms of Cascadia: An Illustrated Key" and he coauthored Ascomycete Fungi of North America, published in 2014. His photographs have appeared in over 80 publications. He regularly writes about mushrooms for McIlvainea: Journal of American Amateur Mycology, The Mycophile (NAMA newsletter), and Fungi Magazine. Michael received the 2006 NAMA Award for Contributions to Amateur Mycology and has prepared over two dozen presentations about mushrooms for the NAMA Education Committee. In 2017, mushroom expert Paul Stamets of Fungi Perfecti, created the Mike Beug Scholarship, in honor of the professor who helped shaped Stamets’ career as a mycologist.

***WMS hosts monthly zoom lectures on the 3rd Thursday of each month for members. iNaturalist discussion begins at 6:30 pm. Featured presentations begin at 7:00 pm followed by Q&A.
