Your Closet Can Help a Young Entrepreneur

Donate your gently used clothes and knick-knacks to Evergreen Development Corp

That sweater you never wear, or the vase sitting in your cabinet, could become a real business lesson. Evergreen Development Corp helps young people experience entrepreneurship firsthand. The youth in our program will photograph, price, and sell your donated items online, learning real business skills while raising funds for future programs.

We're looking for:

Clothing for all ages (especially brand-name, vintage, and athletic wear)
Shoes, sneakers, jackets, and accessories
Home décor, collectibles, and knick-knacks
Kitchenware, small electronics, books, and games

Please make sure items are: clean, in good condition, and free of stains, tears, or missing pieces.

We believe every kid has a business idea in them; they need the tools, mentors, and confidence to build it. That's why we work with middle and high schoolers across Knoxville to teach real entrepreneurship skills: idea generation, pitching, budgeting, and bringing a product to life.

This is one of our most fun groups. Congratulations everyone.Thanks to Communications' Summer in the City (SITC) intern Tylan Baker for reporting on last week's collabo between Evergreen Community Development Corporation and the Aspire Teen Camp at Cal Johnson Community Center (City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation).

The week-long program encourages teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurship by challenging camp participants to develop concepts that could become real businesses. Several SITC interns served as mentors, assisting and support participants throughout the process.

Teams presented a variety of innovative ideas, including:

- GGP Gold Goat Priority, a clothing brand
- The Commune, a community center designed to bring people together through recreation and resources
- SFactor, a gaming dinner experience
- Smokies Clean and Repair, a musical instrument cleaning and repair service.

Each project was judged on presentation, audience reach, realism, and overall concept, with Smokies Clean and Repair earning the top honor for its outstanding business idea and presentation.
