Outline for Your Story in Recovery

The Bible teaches that our true identity is not shaped by what we do, who we are in the eyes of the world, or even by our past, but by who God says we are. Our identity is rooted in God’s love, His adoption of us as His children, and the new life we have in Christ.

1. We Are Made in God’s Image
God created humanity in His own image, giving us inherent value and dignity. This truth should guide how we see ourselves and others:

Genesis 1:27 – “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

2. We Are Children of God
Through faith in Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family, heirs to His promises, and co-heirs with Christ:

John 1:12 – “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

Galatians 3:26 – “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.”

Romans 8:16 – “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” biblestudyforyou.com+1

3. We Are New Creations in Christ
Our old self is replaced by a new life in Him, empowering us to live differently:

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Galatians 2:20 – “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” biblestudyforyou.com+1

4. Our Identity Is Not Earned
Our worth is not based on achievements, appearance, or societal approval, nor on the things of our past, but on God’s grace:

Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Bible Gateway+1

5. Living Out This Identity
When we present our identity in Christ, we reflect His love, holiness, and purpose in our words and actions. This means letting go of self-centered definitions and embracing the truth that “I am not what I do, I am not what I fear, I am who God says I am”

Who does God say you are? Who does He say we should be?

What life are you living? Are we living the life that God intended for us or are we living a lie? The choice is yours.

Please watch last week's lesson to hear more about this topic.

I love you, but God loves you so much more!
