An official statement has been posted by His Majesty Logan South. Let it be heard, let it sink in deep, let it be known, and heed what is being said here.... I, as the sanctioned King of the VCK, Archduke of the River, overseer of the East Region of TN, and general member of the community, stand in agreement. ~AD~
The Vampire Court of Austin is not a "Vampire Fan Club" and neither is any self respecting Court in the Vampire Community.
The purpose of a Court is to be a governing body for the Vampire Community of it's local area. A Court should reflect that Community. A Court should serve it's community, not expect it's leaders to be served by the Community. The purpose of a Court is to allow it's members to grow together, to connect with one another and build a better future for all within it.
As the King of my Court I serve it, I do not expect anyone to serve me. Any members that do, or have, I expect have done so in the greater interest of serving the Court and/or have done so out of what I hope is earned respect. I would not ask any of our members to serve my personal whims or my wallet. If anything it's quite the opposite, I serve the whims of my Court and regularly fund it's endeavours.
While I have no issue with people who enjoy Vampire Role Play, Vampire Fiction, etc., a Vampire Court is no place for these things, not unless they are a simple side note enjoyed by it's members for fun outside of Court related meetings or activities. Court's are not "fan clubs" and to refer to them as such is not only demeaning, it sets our Community back 30 years. Vampires, while still very human at our core, are indeed something more as well, and that should be taken seriously, not casually dejected for the sake of public image. If anything dejecting it and refering to our Court's as "fan clubs" achieves the opposite.
While there is much debate surrounding the Vampire condition, the one thing we should all agree on is bettering our Community and standing opposed to those that would defame it.
To those of you that have stood in the face of this adversity and called it out, I know many of you are feeling lost and hurt right now, but I ask you to stand strong. You do not stand alone and you will have a better tomorrow coming. I know that fractures like this can be disheartening but understand that your Community is only being tempered and will come out stronger in the end as long as you continue to strive for what is best for the whole. Support is coming, aid is coming, Unity is coming, and with it a better tomorrow for us all.
Your servant,
King Logan South of Austin
