It all comes back to the same foundation: strong patrol experience builds better officers, better decision-making, and stronger leadership at every level.

Please keep the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office in your prayers. Earlier today a deputy was shot and killed while assisting the Martin Police Department on a disturbance call. Suspect in custody - no threat to the public. Pray for the family, friends, and coworkers with WCSO and Martin PD.

🎄 Christmas Came a Little Early in Jefferson City 🎄

Earlier this evening, Christmas arrived a little early for a couple special children in Jefferson City.

FOP Lodge 61 President Shane Hanshew, who is also a Sergeant with the Dandridge Police Department, was contacted by a family whose Shop with a Cop invitation was unfortunately lost in the mail and didn’t arrive until after the event. Their only request was simply to see if an officer might be able to stop by on Christmas Eve to visit with the children.

That’s exactly what happened—along with a little extra holiday cheer.

Sgt. Hanshew reached out to Sgt. Beckner with the Jefferson City Police Department and Dep. Byrd with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office,Tennessee , and together they gathered some help before heading out to meet the children. And they didn’t arrive empty-handed.

Thanks to the generosity of a private citizen who donated two bicycles, the officers arrived along with a Walmart gift card, and were able to help make Christmas a little brighter for this family.

Moments like these remind us what this season is truly about—community, compassion, and coming together to help one another. ❤️🎄

Last night, FOP Lodge 61 proudly hosted our annual Shop with a Cop event, one that was especially meaningful this year.

Thanks to an incredibly generous donation from a retired law enforcement officer, we were able to triple the number of children we took shopping, with 62 kids registered to participate. The impact of that generosity was felt in every smile throughout the night.

The evening began at the Jefferson County Justice Center in Dandridge, where parents dropped off their children before they boarded a school bus generously provided by Jefferson County Schools . The bus was driven by Dandridge Police Chief Phillip Batts and escorted by approximately 20–25 patrol units, with lights and sirens at times, on the way to the Walmart Jefferson City - E Broadway Blvd an experience the kids won’t soon forget.

Upon arrival, Walmart treated the children to a warm meal before the shopping began. Each child was paired with an officer and given the opportunity to shop for anything they wanted. Some chose toys, clothes, shoes, and in many cases, gifts for siblings. Watching these kids think of others while picking out items was truly heartwarming.

We are incredibly grateful for the many officers from surrounding agencies and counties who volunteered their time to help make this night possible. Events like this are a powerful reminder of what can happen when our community, businesses, and law enforcement come together to support our youth.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this night so special.

Special thanks to Sara May for taking pictures throughout the evening.

Update on Deputy Dalton Swanger-

December 5, 2025

Deputy Dalton Swanger’s tracheal resection surgery has been scheduled for later this month. Until then, he will continue undergoing dilation procedures to keep his airway open. His most recent surgery (this week) showed his airway had narrowed to just under 2 mm. He will remain out of work until late winter or early spring.

Deputy Swanger has now undergone six surgeries since late August and may require additional procedures before the resection. He continues to show remarkable strength throughout this complex recovery process.

Sheriff Tom Spangler and Chief Deputy Bernie Lyon, along with our entire blue family, are grateful for the continued support Deputy Swanger has received from our community and beyond. Please continue to pray for both Dalton and Stephania through this journey.
