Have questions about becoming a CASA volunteer? Join us for Coffee with CASA, held every third Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. at our office, 7417 Kingston Pike, Suite 105, in Knoxville. This month, we'll gather on Friday, October 16.

Coffee with CASA is a relaxed way to learn what a Court Appointed Special Advocate does before you apply. Stop by to ask about volunteering, our training process, or other ways to support CASA of East Tennessee.

There's more than one way to be a champion for children in our community.

Our volunteers handle the direct advocacy, getting to know a child, gathering information, and speaking up in court. Our donors make that advocacy possible, because recruiting, training, and supporting each volunteer takes both time and funding from a small staff working behind the scenes.

CASA of East Tennessee has done this for 40 years, and what makes it work hasn't changed: people who give their hours and people who give their dollars. Every hour and every dollar changes lives.

You don't need a special background to become a CASA volunteer, just a heart for children and a willingness to speak up for them. Here's what the process looks like with CASA of East Tennessee:

🔹Reach out to our office to learn about the role
🔹Submit a volunteer application
🔹Complete our screening and background checks
🔹Finish pre-service training with our staff
🔹Get matched with a case, with our team supporting you the whole way

Volunteers need to be 21 or older and able to stay with a case until it closes, which averages 12 to 18 months. We hold training quarterly, and our next class is coming up later this fall.

We’re honored to be a recipient of United Way of Greater Knoxville’s Community Investment Grant! We’re grateful to have a partner who believes in the power of advocacy and the importance of showing up for children and families in our community.

This investment helps us continue recruiting, training, and supporting dedicated CASA volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children experiencing abuse and neglect in Knox County. With this support, we can strengthen our advocacy, grow our impact, and help ensure more children have a consistent, caring voice as they navigate the child welfare system.

What does a CASA volunteer actually do? The answer is bigger than a courtroom appearance.

Our advocates at CASA of East Tennessee are appointed by a judge to represent a child's best interests in juvenile abuse and neglect cases, and most of that work happens long before anyone walks into a hearing.

An advocate gets to know the child and talks with the people in that child's life, including parents and relatives, caregivers, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, and social workers. They bring what they learn to the judge so the court hears what the child actually needs. Our volunteers listen first, and then they act.

The children we serve also aren't all in traditional foster care. Many are placed with relatives instead, and they need someone speaking up for them just the same.

We are thrilled to officially introduce the new Executive Director for CASA of East Tennessee- our very own Colby Webb!

Colby is no stranger to our organization or our mission. He's served as our Program Director for the last three years and has dedicated his entire career to helping children in our community. He is already well-known and deeply beloved by our volunteers, staff, and supporters, as well as the wider non-profit community.

Appointing Colby to lead CASA into this next chapter was the natural, best possible decision our Board of Directors could have made. He brings incredible heart, experience, and vision to the role, and we are confident in the future of our agency under his leadership.
