Saturday June 27, 2026, was a special day at the Piedmont Gun Club in Rutherfordton NC. We remembered a very dear friend and participated in the 1st Annual Ruben Joe Jones Memorial Match. We were blessed to have Joe’s wife, Rosemary Edwards Green , and his daughter, Donna Jones Smith, attend the match with us. Joe was kind, witty, mischievous, and an all-around great guy—the kind of person who made every match, every trip, and every story a little more memorable. We were all blessed by knowing Joe. My wife and I had the opportunity to travel to several out-of-state matches with Joe in tow, and we made some of the very best memories along the way. He always had stories to tell, and they are memories we will continue to treasure for years to come.
The weather was hot and humid, but thankfully the rain did hold off. Keeping cool was a challenge for not only us, but the barrels too. There was a harmony of barrel coolers and fans running between relays, all doing their best to keep up with the heat. We had 16 shooters brave the heat, and we truly missed those who were not able to make it to the match!
Awards were presented for the highest score at 100 yards, the highest score at 200 yards, and the highest overall score for the day. Sharon Hisle won the 100-yard highest score with a perfect 200 – 4X. Jeffrey Sechrist won the 200-yard highest score with a 195 – 2X. He also won the day overall with a 394 – 6X. There was good shooting all around for the day.
