Meet the Board of Directors of BattleField Farm & Gardens and The ONE FIVE:

Chris Battle
Adam Woldt
Angela Dennis
India Brabson
Damon Rawls
Kevin Dubose
Wesleigh Wright
Robert Hodge
Jered Croom

This board brings experience in farming, faith, business, media, public service and community organizing, and every one of them has a stake in our work.

The store grows out of years of work on the ground. Since 2019, Battlefield Farm & Gardens has fought food insecurity in East Knoxville with one goal in mind: turning a food desert into a food oasis. It began with a community garden on the grounds of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where Pastor Chris Battle saw firsthand that too many of our neighbors in 37915 had no reliable way to buy fresh, healthy food. That garden grew into an urban farm and a network of community gardens planted across East Knoxville. Battlefield helped launch the Eastside Sunday Market and delivere fresh produce to families in with the Fannie Lou Veggie Van.

The upcoming ONE FIVE Grocery Store sits at 2265 McCalla Ave. We're raising $1.5 million to build it, with construction planned for January 2027 and doors scheduled to open in September 2027.

Our belief is simple: your ZIP code should not determine your ability to access fresh, affordable food.

This store is being built by the community, for the community.

Follow along and help us get there 💚

Yesterday, we had the privilege of sharing time with one of Knoxville’s most beloved servant leaders, Yassin Terou, whose heart for people and commitment to community have made a lasting impact on our city.

Yassin and Pastor Chris Battle have each spent years doing the work of serving Knoxville, building bridges, bringing people together and creating spaces that are rooted in dignity, opportunity and love for community. It makes this moment even more meaningful as the vision for The ONE FIVE Grocery Store continues to come to life in East Knoxville.

Our team at Battlefield Farm & Gardens is incredibly grateful to have Yassin’s support, friendship and expertise through Yassin’s Falafel House and Seeds and Bridges as we move closer to making ONE FIVE a reality. This project is about investing in community, fighting food insecurity, increasing access to fresh and affordable food, creating opportunity and building something that belongs to the people it will serve.

We’re excited about the seeds being planted today and all that can grow from working together. With a shared vision of service, there is so much we can accomplish ❤️🌱

We appreciate our community partners United Way of Greater Knoxville 🫶🏾

Our Board recently came together to welcome new members.

During the meeting, Pastor Chris Battle shared how an idea for a community garden grew into BattleField Farm & Gardens and The ONE FIVE Grocery Store.

He also reflected on what his partnership with United Way of Greater Knoxville have meant along the way:

"United Way didn't simply fund a project. It invested in people, encouraged collaboration instead of competition, and opened doors."

We’re grateful to walk alongside partners like Pastor Battle who are building solutions and strengthening our community.
