Ambassadors Boys High School Basketball Summer Practices & Fall Tryouts
We will host open practices for homeschooling students interested in playing for Knoxville Ambassadors on every other Thursday, beginning June 18th at Cornerstone Church of Knoxville from 6:30-9:00. These will be every other week from June 18th through August 27th.
We will host open practices at Black Oak Heights Baptist Church from 5-8 PM on Thursdays, September 10th, 17th, and 24th.
Official tryouts will be on Tuesday, September 29th and Thursday, October 1st at Black Oak Heights Baptist Church from 5-8 PM.
If you are interested in playing with us next season, we highly encourage you to participate in these open summer practices to get to know our coaches and players.
More information about the team and plans for the season:
For those who make the team, our first official practice will be on the Monday (10/12) and continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday most weeks in October and early November. Most Tuesday/Thursday practices will be at Black Oak Heights Baptist and most Monday and Friday practices will be at Alice Bell Baptist. Note that we will be off for fall break (10/2 to 10/11).
We plan to host a mandatory team retreat from Friday evening October 16th through Sunday morning, October 18th.
We will have a JV and a varsity team. Coach Tyson Dodd will lead the JV team, and Coach Spencer Hall will lead the varsity team, and we will have joint practices and be investing in the boys together.
Varsity will play a competitive schedule of between 35 and 40 games this year, beginning November 7th and continuing through the second week in March for our Gatlinburg year-end tournament. JV will not play quite as many, but probably 25-30 or so. Our varsity will play a tournament during the week of Thanksgiving (likely Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday games), but JV will not. Most games will be against local public and private school teams, but we will also play some homeschooling teams within a 2 hour drive on Saturdays. These are usually done in a home/away format so that we host each team and travel to play each team sometime during the season. These include homeschool teams from Cookeville, Chattanooga, Abingdon, Virginia, and Johnson City.
From October through mid-March, we will practice or play a game on four days a week typically. Never on Sunday and rarely on Wednesday. We have not set the HS program fee this year, but it will likely be between $500 and $600. We have to pay for gym space, which is the main driver of the fee.
One other important note: Knoxville Ambassadors is a program that can only serve homeschool students who are homeschoolers by definition under state law. There are many accredited online schools (e.g. Liberty) that do not meet that definition, and sadly, we cannot serve those students.
